UC Berkeley Haas 2019 Transfer Thread

@Bibihcmvn Your story sounds very compelling, and I truly hope Haas admits you. The admissions process can be difficult, but it would be great to provide further context to other students in this thread as well considering your impressive story and stats.
Are you out of state, studying at a private college, or at a CA community college?
Also, were you able to finish all your prerequisite classes, or do you still have any in progress? Lastly, were your classes taken within 5 years?

I chose 4 question:

  1. How I get ready for the major.
    That is the area where I talked about how I recognized that I have talent in Business. So I had to tell them about my background since I left the Pharmacy school in my country to study in Business but finally ending up in working to support my parents. And told them why I pursued 3 majors to now make sure I still be able to complete my goal despite any potential crisis in finance.
  1. Challenge and how to overcome. It was the first few years I became a single Mom but the people in my town took that as a big shame for my family and relatives. By that I told them about why I became an English tutor to be able to take my baby with me all the time since I had no money for shelter or childcare. And the story led to the result that I had my own classrooms and became successful popular English private teacher on phonetics. That challenge helps me a lot when I immigrated into the US so that I could do well in CCC and at work.
  2. My leadership - my charity group.
  3. Right now dont remember the 4th one but I think it depends on how you wrote so that it seems to be your resume of achievement or your personalities revealed from life events.

I do not think the problem is how long you spend on the essay. I am only worried because I am new in the US and not sure whether my definition of value would be similar to the US’s standard. Then maybe what I think it is my strength can be a weakness.

I am just not ready to move to LA. That’s why I really really want Berkely. I am old enough to not be so down if I fail Berkely.

However, based on my own working experience, I see the Business program from UCR and UCI can benefit me most. But I heard that you depend on network in US to find a good job after graduating. Thats why I want to challenge myself into Berkely and UCLA although UCLA program does not match the job I want to do.

Thanks a lot for your responses to chill me out these days. So nervous to move to LA if I fail.

@Bibihcmvn I hope Haas admits you. Good luck.

@haasornothing You said, “I’ve created many top-charting apps, instructed a best-selling online course and gave a Tedx talk. I have a 4.0 and I’m 21 years old and so on”. Your portfolio is so impressive. I do think you are very qualified and will get admission easily.

@stdnt4ever Thanks a lot.

@stdnt4ever Thank you for the kind words! I’m hoping so :slight_smile: Haas is the only school I applied to.

Thank you for posting the questions! Did you guys use your phone or laptops for the interview? Ik it’s a random question

Definitely use a laptop/computer

@Makemeabear I’m DONE!! Pretty much all the same questions you were asked, so thank you! My interviewer was a 2017 Haas graduate. She was really sweet and made the whole experience really fun. I’m sooo happy our interviews are behind us. Now it’s just a waiting game. We’ve all come so far and it’s so exciting to see what happens next. :slight_smile:

Hello all,

New member here. I thought I would share that I took my interview and was also asked the exact same questions as the previous two members posted. So thank you to @anhvo105 and @Makemeabear for helping me and other students prepare for their interviews!

Best of luck to you all!

Did anyone hear from HAAS after the interview?

@emmamai I didn’t. To my knowledge we don’t hear back until decision day.

Congrats to all of you guys who have completed interviews and good luck to all other applicants and those who did not complete their interview yet! I am part of the Haas transfer class of 2020, and was in the same spot as you guys just last year. I wanted to extend my help with any questions that you guys may have (that I can answer to the best of my ability)! Go bears!

I just finished my interview and it was with a haas graduate as well. He asked about three of the questions that were mentioned in the thread, the rest were follow up questions based on my answers. I felt that it was more of a conversation rather than an interview. I’m not sure how i did because i felt very nervous at first and it went so fast. I don’t even remember exactly what my answers were. Good luck to everyone that’s going to be interviewed next week!

I hope the requests are still rolling out, I’m bummed I didn’t get one

@neilsola same

Hi @lialec. That’s really kind of you to stop by and offer some assistance. If I receive some good news next month I may be reaching out to you again for some advise.

@zk00 I love how laid back the interviews are. I kinda felt the same way right after my interview, almost feeling like I forgot everything I said. It’s a surreal moment and I’m glad it’s finally behind us. :slight_smile:

@neilsola @GoodAfternoonSir fingers crossed they’ll send out a second wave of interviews soon. ??

@Ohm888 I think I made a mistake. Was my community college supposed to send a GPA Verification form to the colleges I applied (UC Berkeley, UCLA, etc) for my Cal Grant to transfer to these insitutions?

@Ohm888 When I logged into the CSAC website, it simply says that I can submit a school change. I figured this would be okay and my cal grant info should be transferred this way? I know that I’ve listed Berkely as my college to receive Financial Aid on my FAFSA and I’ve done that.

You can change the colleges without an issue. They did want that GPA verification by, when? — early March? Anyway, just send it. I don’t know much about FAFSA so maybe someone else up here can speak with more authority on it.
