UC Berkeley Haas 2019 Transfer Thread

Does anyone know what majors are available to double major or minor in? If I get accepted as a transfer, I know you cannot double major (not sure about minors?) within the college of engineering, but I’m not sure about other departments.

if you are referring to Haas, the business school does not designate majors. Your are a business major and for example, you can take a concentrate in accounting or finance by taking most of your electives in the accounting or finance courses offered by the business school.

@greatiog You can double major as a Haas student.

Also please do not multi-post. Wait for answers. You can double major everywhere. There are some restricted majors that transfers can’t get into.

@UCBUSCalum No, I am wondering what majors are/aren’t available to double major in if I get in as a business major. I am a community college student that applied to Haas. If so, are the processes different for each major? If I were to be accepted into Haas, is it possible to double major from a major in the College of Letters and Sciences or Engineering, for example: Business Administration & Statistics(or Economics).

@Ohm888 Sorry, they were different threads, I didn’t know. I’ve been reading around on it, but there is limited information on transfer students and the processes.

@greatiog Double majors with business and another colleges (i.e., engineering, architect, etc.) are difficult because you have to be admitted to that college (i.e., engineering, architect). Also there is the question whether it is feasible to fit all the requirements in your schedule. Within business at Haas, for example, you can have a concentration in finance and marketing by taking a good number of classes for these disciplines and essentially have a double major within the business school. You should discuss with an advisor at Cal.

Anyone else get this email?
The date they’re asking for is the summer gap between my high school and college. Wonder why they ask, I assume it’s normal to not apply to summer session after high school Lol

We have received your University of California Undergraduate Application for Admission and
Scholarships. Thank you for your interest in our campus.

We are in the process of reviewing your application. Before we can complete our review and reach an
admission decision, we need an explanation for the gaps in your educational history. Please provide
chronological details of your activities during the following time period:

05/2016 to 09/2016

If you were enrolled in one or more colleges or universities during any part of this time period, please
provide the name and location of the institution(s), the dates of attendance, and a complete list of all
course work attempted and grades earned.

We must receive this information within five days of the date of this message, or processing of your
application may be delayed or canceled.

@taki123 I haven’t received an email like that, no. They probably just want to know if you took that time away from school to volunteer, work, etc. Those additional details on your resume can only help your chances.

Does anyone know if AP credits are counted towards your total college unit count? This is because without AP I will only be able to complete 59 units by the end of this Spring and UC requires junior transfer to have at least 60 units.

@sagaciousforever yes the AP credits do count for the purpose that you described. As long as the scores are 3+ and as long as they are not repeat credits (ie if you got a 3 in AP Calc AB and decided to take Calc 1 again, your AP Calc AB credit won’t count anymore)

@ProfessorPlum168 Thanks for responding!

I am concerned now because I only have 62 units and not all of them are transferable because I currently study at a top 50, 4-year private university in California( not from CC so it’s gonna be hard lol).

I have already applied to 4 UC campuses because I thought they are lenient on missing very few units. Technically, if they admit you with fewer than 60 transferrable units, you will have to take summer classes and even an additional year of college, so isn’t that beneficial for the UC colleges because they get more tuition money?

Can I still be accepted as a junior or even as a sophomore?

Also, do you think if I should send them an additional message that I am willing to graduate a quarter to a year late if they accept me?

https://admissions.berkeley.edu/transfer-requirements

If you have more than 60, including APs, then you are fine, from what that doc says.

@ProfessorPlum168 Thanks and hopefully! I will complete 62 units including APs.

What worries me is that the website says " 60 transferable units" and classes that I took such as public speaking at a 4 year university may not transfer. But I hope for the best to be accepted.

@sagaciousforever Use this site http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html and hopefully you can find your community college’s articulation agreement with a UC campus. There you can find if your public speaking class will be accepted for credit. If not then if your college offer’s 2nd 8 week classes (These start on March 19 for me), then take any one of those to get to 60 units. If that doesn’t work then contact the UC’s and ask if they will accept CLEP units. Clep exams basically give credit if you pass with an ACE recommended score of 50 or higher out of 80 (which if you calculate the percentage is a D- average). Great way to earn credits easily. Here’s the website for more information: https://clep.collegeboard.org/

@UCBUSCalum This is way late but just wanted to confirm that UCLA Transfer threads have also been moved to the UC Transfer forum. The transfer admission process is so different that @Ohm888 is much better equipped to answer and moderate them.

@Ohm888 So I was just poking around the UC Berkeley Haas 2018 transfer thread and I saw that most of the people who applied (and stayed throughout the thread) and that completed or will complete all of their pre-reqs in the spring before transferring got accepted.

With this in mind, what is the middle 80% gpa accepted range for transfers? Also, what gpa is competitive for Haas applicants? I know that UC Berkeley is much more holistic and look at the overall application more so than other universities which explains why this place would suit my core beliefs well. I’m just a bit curious.

@GoodAfternoonSir If you complete all the pre-reqs, I think 3.8 is a highly completive GPA. 3.7-3/75 has a shot. I did not complete all the pre-reqs though since I am transferring from a top 50, 4-year university. I am missing one higher level English and I only did Business Calculus. Hopefully I have a shot.

@sagaciousforever Haas says that missing even 1 prerequisite will automatically disqualify you from the pool. Sorry

@neilsola Are you sure? I have a friend who got into HAAS two years ago without all pre-reqs completed. Finishing all pre-req is the rule but there are still exceptions. Do not be so certain.

@sagaciousforever Yes. I am certain. You are wrong. No exceptions.
“All prerequisites must be completed by the end of the spring term prior to
starting at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business. Only applicants who
complete 100% of the prerequisites will be considered for admission. Failure
to complete required courses is the primary reason for denial of
applications.”
