UC Berkeley Haas 2019 Transfer Thread

@GoodAfternoonSir the admit figures for all the other majors are using the criteria that includes those that didn’t fulfill requirements. Thus the 11% Biz Econ is the equivalent of the 5% Haas. Haas is the only major that shows the breakdown prior to not fulfilling requiremts. There are enormous amounts of people that don’t fulfill req across the board. The majority of major admittance are through the admissions offices and they just aren’t broken down.

Haas has always been the most difficult of the business majors to get into, although who gets accepted everywhere is at the discretion of each UC.

@Ohm888 I never said that the 11% acceptance rate for Biz econ is or isn’t equivalent to the 5% acceptance rate by Haas presented by the statistics. I was reinforcing the fact that most of the applications received for Haas do not have all Pre-Reqs completed, resulting in most of the applications being rejected on the spot due to Haas policy to have all Pre-reqs completed by the Spring Semester before transferring.

Again, 11% for Biz econ is equivalent of course due to the “Raw statistics” presented. The Business Econ Program is highly competitive as well, requiring all pre-reqs to be completed by the spring semester before transferring as well. Thus the 11% includes those who applications were outright denied on the spot and those who completed all Pre-Reqs. I can imagine the acceptance rate for those who did complete all Pre-reqs for the business econ major is higher. With this in mind, UCLA’s business econ program presumably has a higher acceptance rate than UC Berkeley Haa’s undergrad program.

Of course, Haas is always going to be the hardest business program to get into for the UC’s. Looking at the Raw Statistics for the Business Administration major, compared to Haa’s 5% when looking at this without breaking down the number of applicant’s who have completed all pre-reqs, UC Irvine has a 22% acceptance rate, UCR has a 72% admit rate,

I just wanted the public to know the distinction and I think we agree. Haas adds the two English as part of its req (the UC minimum req) because they do their admittance pretty much entirely through their college so they add everything you need to get into a UC. As such they have access to data the other colleges don’t, since almost all other colleges (including UCLA Biz Econ in L&S) run through the main admissions office.

There are other majors, especially at Berkeley, such as engineering that also adds English into its major prep. They also do admitting through the college of Engineering. How involved admissions is I have no idea, but the college is extremely involved, so they add the whole kit and caboodle.

If a person has all their requirements done for Biz Econ at UCLA they have a higher chance than noted, although we are not privy to that information. There have been articles written on this subject, not specifically about the UCs, but about admissions in general, with the argument that people have higher chances than led to believe because some applicants out the gate aren’t eligible. Haas is one of the few that shows the actual breakdown, and I commend them for that.

And btw, I was basing my original post on something said by another person, that biz Econ has harder to get into than Haas.

Hey everyone,

Current Haas transfer here. I thought about some friends that are currently lurking this page looking for information and thought it would be cool to help some others out having been in your shoes last year. Feel free to ask in the replies any questions you guys have about the process and best practices after getting in. Best of luck.

@ohm888 is correct that generally UCB’ Haas is more difficult to get admitted to than UCLA’s Bus. Econ. The admit GPA for Haas is higher than UCLA’s (3.3+) and the course requirements are more difficult, i.e., Haas requires 2 semester or 3 quarters of calculus vs. UCLA 2 quarters. Also, from a freshman viewpoint, many admitted freshmen to both UCB and UCLA, who aspire a career in business, consulting or accounting, choose UCLA after extensive research, such as consulting with current students, professors, etc… They conclude that Haas is more difficult to get into than UCLA’s Bus. Econ. and therefore choose to attend UCLA over UCB. If they chose UCB, they risk not getting into Haas in their junior year.

@UCBUSCalum that is helpful info. Thanks.

Did anyone receive the interview invitation yet?

@Iwishforhaas Nothing yet.

Last year, acceptance decision for us came on April 27th (for UCLA Econ program it was same week - just earlier in the week) And Haas interview date came on March 21st with interview scheduled for 26th.

@jane2017 With those dates in mind, I think it’s fair to assume tomorrow 3/22 Friday interview requests will be sent out. Do you agree?

I would guess so…timing seems right. we got it on Friday too (both interview and acceptance).

Interviews are out!

Are they out at the the same time?

Last year they had multiple drops for interviews but I just got the email at 12:07pm.

Have people gotten in without an interview?

@Iwishforhaas @Makemeabear Same here. I received the email at 12:07pm. The dates they offered me are March 26-28. Is it the same for everyone else?

@neilsola Yes! If you go back and look at previous years you’ll find a few people on CC who were never interviewed but were still accepted. Also, a few people received their email a few days later so there’s still hope if you haven’t received an email.

Some people get an interview and don’t get in.

Hi guys! I just submitted my interview date, but how does it usually happen? is it going to be through a phone call?

@zk00 It will be conducted on their new program “Slate,” in the confirmation email it states “All interviews will be conducted in Slate. 12 hours before your scheduled interview, you will receive an email from me with your access information.”

Good luck everyone! This is definitely a nerve-wracking time!
