UC Davis emailed me..

So, I received a lovely email from an evaluator regarding my spring 2010 educational gap. However, I explained this in my application update ( I finished IGETC and my major reqs in fall). Has anyone else received an email like this?

I got an email from Berkeley asking me to elaborate about the cooking classes I take which I mentioned in my essay. I don’t think its a bad thing, they wouldn’t have even bothered if they were going to reject you on the obvious things like GPA.

i got an email from Davis also. Except mine asked me why i had a gap between Summer 2007 and Summer 2008; i just explained to them that i was still in High School at the time. I guess thats what i get for taking CCC classes while in high school… I got the email a few weeks ago though.

I didn’t get an email from them :(

Me either. I had a 5 year gap that I explained in my personal statement. None of the schools have actually had me explain it beyond what I said in the personal statement.

Again, not sure why you guys would want to get this. Clearly, they are only inquiring about academic gaps (probably because they think you may have attended another campus and want to see your excuse for taking off from school for a year or more). You probably would not get this letter if you explained your academic gap in education as recommended.

@ corrinejay, yeah I’d think they wouldn’t bother if that were the case.

@ hanucol, don’t worry!

@ calitrumpet, I did explain it though which perplexes me.

yeah same with me; i thought they would understand that i was in High School at the time. I put the date that i graduated on my application… i guess they dont look at the applications as thoroughly as we thought.

Yeah it is weird. I got something like this from UCI out of high school asking me about the math class I took at a community college over summer. I was admitted in the end, but I still don’t think these inquiries mean anything as far as admissions go. If you can’t explain yourself, however, that could be an issue.

Re:Cali Trumpet
What if they don’t like the answer or explanation about the education gap? What will happen next?

I got an email from CAL asking me about a class I was taking, I think its a good thing. if they were going to reject you why bother asking the question in the first place you know what I mean?

I got an email from Santa Cruz requesting information about a gap period I had. I believe the information will be sent to the other UCs I applied to, not that it makes a difference, but that was the only school that requested a explanation. As also mentioned in previous posts, i felt that I explained pretty in depth about my gaps in the app but I guess they wanted a really specific time period explantation rather than a summary of what I did during that time.

BPkid, what was the question they asked you? I got one too.

were you able to add the class listed in your additional comments as still trying to add.

I was. woo

For those of you who got the email, would you mind sharing your GPA and major? That might help us determine whether or not you are a borderline student who they are considering.

^ well i’m tagged, so i’m guaranteed into the school.

idk if you ment mine because my email was from Cal, but my GPA is 3.73/4

You have a pretty good GPA, corrinejay. I hope it means they are considering you. According to the bagillion bits of stats and tables I’ve reviewed on Cal (I’m applying there too), their avg is around 3.7… if they didn’t care they wouldn’t ask, right?

I don’t know whether to be worried or relieved that I haven’t gotten any emails!

3.6 gpa, from a ccc.

I don’t understand the reasoning behind getting an e-mail from the uc’s inquiring for more information as a positive thing? They are obviously asking for the information that you did not explain or provide to begin with. For example: Gap in education or missing pre req … They obviously aren’t going to e-mail the majority of the students that fulfilled all of the requirements. Quit psyching yourselves out! lol
