UC IRVINE Fall 2020 Transfer Thread

i feel like different admissions officials are saying different things…imma just stick with the thought that they’ll be released early april

@svoxut if TAG decisions can take until the 30th then whatever they put on the uc admission calendar is false bc they clearly stated that H2H and TAG is early april smh.

Also apparently the TAG isnt a true guarantee at Irvine, especially if they get more applicants than expected. Last year comp sci was a tag-able major but the major was too impacted and UCI didn’t honor their TAGs

@tinymango I spoke to an admin rep using the live chat, tbh wasnt very helpful. at first I asked her when TAG students are gonna hear back and all she said was by april 30th. I then told her I thought TAG students were gonna hear back early april and she said it is on a rolling basis so some may not hear until later on in the month

all majors in the computer science department are not TAGable, at least as of this year. so maybe they did that because too many people TAGed to those majors in the past. if that is true, then they would have done the same for any other majors that TAG allowed too many students in for–meaning this year, for students of Fall 2020, the issue should hopefully no longer be present.

@shredder47 lucky for me my major is not impacted at all lol

If TAG decisions are rolling until april 30th and we just find out about this delay now its kind of ridiculous lol

@frogluvr I was referring to last year. For Fall 2019 transfers could TAG compsci but ultimately UCI received too many applicants and didn’t honor the TAGs, basically screwing a bunch of ppl over. Now the major isnt TAG-able

I think if you TAG’ed and dont hear back by early april you most likely didnt get accepted through TAG. Usually ppl who got accepted hear back first, they prioritize that so I believe that admin rep said rolling basis meaning later on in april for ppl who were not accepted

@sadstemstudent oh no i just read the thread post by goodluckforus

call me a karen but the idea of any TAG applicant not being granted admission is ridiculous; if a school cannot honor their own policy then the G in TAG needs to be modified.

@shredder47 yeah it was definitely a rough year. UCI I noticed kind of has a history of doing that (where they get more applicants than they expect).

it sucks that u dont even know if you still on TAG or not tbh i’ve been reading the TAG requirements list on their website and on UC TAP over and over again just to be sure that I’ve met all the requirements lol

i’m sure a lot of you may already be familiar with this website, but for those of you who aren’t, it helps to give you an idea of where you stand among the applicant pool according to your major. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major

@frogluvr youre not a karen, i completely agree

Does UCI care about essays/extracurriculars? I read on the UCSB thread that their school doesn’t really care too much about that stuff. I had a professor at my college even tell me only UCB and UCLA put heavy weight on those categories.

My gpa is higher than the admit range for transfer in my major so I just hope that’s a good sign of automatic admittance honestly. I have a 3.87 for and the admit range is up to 3.81 lol

Hi everyone, I was wondering about my chances of getting in. I currently have a 4.0 Major GPA, but unfortunately have a 3.4 overall GPA due to switching majors after taking many units in my previous major. I applied as a Business Administration Major with Business Economics as my alternative major.

@frogluvr You’re totally not a Karen. It’s called TAG for a reason.

It just sucks the reality is that at each university, UC or not, they will always have a target of how many people they can give acceptances to. If there are too many applicants for a certain major, then a “guarantee” is thrown out of the window.

from what i’ve heard, uci’s business school is extremely competitive. last year uci had 2,318 transfer applicants under your major, and only 306 were accepted–putting it at a 13% acceptance rate. admit gpa range was 3.83-4.0.

At this point, I hope us regular applicants can get decision on a rolling basis with tag people.
