UCLA Orientation Session 201!

Even if the psych 100A class is full there is still space in there reserved for ALL the new transfers. Aside from that there is 350 spots in other psychology courses so that each transfer can enroll in another psych course.

I feel so bad for all of these impacted/psych majors not being able to enroll in any more than three classes, having all their classes already full, etc.

@skeptiq Thanks!

Is the orientation worth paying the big money? I signed up for the orientation, but I don’t know what I can benefit from it. Like do they provide major specific information and educational plan? Im already taking summer classes, so I don’t need tour around the campus.

Honestly, it’s not worth $135. It’s worth $50 (Tops). In my opinion, the only good thing about it was signing up for classes and meeting new people. All of the information they give you is pretty much self explanatory and can easily be found online.

hi guys this is what i got from my e mail but i have a problem with it :(

Check-in begins at 7:30 am at the Royce Hall Quad.

Bring two copies of ALL your transcripts so I can advise you appropriately on Fall Quarter courses. ( I don’t actually have a hard copy transcript ,I just sent them my transcript by mail X.X can they pull my transcript up from their data base ? on MYUCLA website it shows that they received my final transcript, so i didn’t bother to bring a hard copy , is this a mistake :o ?)

Bring your Bruincard if you have received it or a photo ID so you can pick up your Bruincard in the morning.

Bring your UCLA logon information (username and password) to enroll in classes.

Wear comfortable walking shoes since you will have presentations and meetings in different locations on campus.

You will enroll in your classes at 8:00 pm tomorrow - please make plans to stay for this in case there are any problems.

Thanks !

I think it definitely is worth it… although it may be a bit expensive, it is very important for you to go
If a class you need is closed, they can open up a spot for you, you wont be able to do that if you don’t attend any orientation session.
Also, they don’t give tours during orientation.

Do any of you guys know of anyone who switched majors at successfully switched majors at orientation?Particularly to biology…I know la4ever posted a timeline and pointed out the time at which you could go to another major, but I was just wondering if this worked out for anyone.

I don’t think its possible to switch to a Life Science major like biology because there’s too many pre-requisites and it’s impacted. Unless you’re already majoring in any of the other life science majors then it may be possible. Just speak to your New Student Advisor and they will let you know if it’s possible and when you can change.

@skeptiq alright thanks, I am always getting mixed responses from this question. I do have a friend who got in as a history major and switched to biology, but this was a couple of years ago and wasn’t sure if their policies changed.

I believe skeptiq is correct. According to this link, you have to be a life science major in order to switch into another one.

“Demand for the life science majors significantly exceeds space available. Because these majors require the completion of extensive preparatory coursework prior to transfer, you must be admitted directly into a life science major; you will not be able to change from a non-life science major after admission to UCLA.”

Out of curiosity, was anyone’s DPR not updated on URSA before they attended Orientation? Mine’s scheduled for tomorrow (205) but my DPR isn’t updated nor have I received any emails from my counselor.
