if u dont take it u dont take it

@asd my point was that berkeley probably has a similar form which will let you contest the classes you’ve taken.

@ MovingUnit
I am just worried how Berkeley is going to react and that I will be unprepared for philosophy at Berkeley, if i am accepted that is.

@beyphy
you mean to contest the philosophy pre-reqs i have taken for other UCs? not necessarily the Berkeley philosophy pre-reqs - cuz Berkeley pre-reqs are not available at my CC.

The prereqs for philosophy are literally offered at like 7 or 8 CCC’s out of 60+. Don’t stress about not having them done; just take a couple phil courses and do well in them. I applied to UCB philosophy with no prereqs done and 2 A’s in phil courses and was admitted.

However, not having any of the 3 major prereqs done would have put me more behind than I already was (spring admit), and I switched to psychology << YES you can switch into impacted majors -within your college- (like L&S); don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

@emilsinclair9

“…2 A’s in phil courses…” but these are pre-reqs that were not listed on assist.org for UC Berkeley right? were they pre-reqs for other UCs?

The philosophy courses actually weren’t prereqs for Berkeley. I’m not sure if they were prereqs to other UC’s because I applied into psychology at all the other UC’s. Thus, since I applied to UCB phil, they were only courses within the major (more or less to show I was good at phil); they weren’t prereqs.

Hey, just wanted to bump this because my question is along the same lines.

My CC-> UCB/LA/SD agreement for philosophy only says to take 1 of 3 pre-reqs (they are stated as one OR another). I took that one pre-req plus the next step up phil102. A’s in both of them.

Will be applying with a 3.35 gpa, IGETC complete.

Worth applying? Are the avg gpas for phil relatively lower?

Average accepted GPA for philosophy is generally around 3.5. So I’d say it’s certainly worth it to apply.

I’m applying, too, so best of luck to you!

Snizzle, I’ve never heard of such agreement. What is it?

I know UCSD just want symbolic logic (that’s minimum), but other than that I’ve never heard of any department that lets students in with just 1 prereq.

here’s the link to what I saw

[ASSIST Report: MIRACSTA 11-12 UCLA Articulation Agreement by Major](http://web1.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=1&sia=MIRACSTA&ria=UCLA&ia=MIRACSTA&oia=UCLA&aay=11-12&ay=11-12&dora=PHILOS)

That’s really weird. As long as there are no CCs nearby that offer UCLA pre-reqs, I suppose you should be fine. Though if UCLA finds out that there’s another school nearby that does offer those classes, you might get into some trouble (emphasis on “might,” because I really am no authority on the subject).

Hmm interesting.

I was reading up on this a bit. Seems there are only 7-8 CC’s that offer them in all of CA.

Do you think what I did will be alright? I took the option of 102, then chose 101 previously (I enjoyed 101, so did 102 after).

The nearest CC to me is about a 45 minute drive :/… hope that isn’t close enough lol idk if they offer it either.

Oh Snizzle, you still have to show interest in your major. Especially when you’re sub-3.5. Just take a couple of philosophy classes your last semester.

My college offered 3 of 4 UCLA prereqs. But I’ve still taken a few philosophy courses. I’ll be transferring out with about 7-8.

By the way, they gave the UCLA Philosophy page a makeover. I was about to not apply b/c of how ugly it was.

They gave it a makeover? What do you mean? Isn’t the agreement with my CC the page that I should go by?

Sorry, just didn’t understand what you meant ;)

yeah im sure its the page u should go by

You should try to complete the other pre-reqs at another CC.
