I had a question before getting into a class. I was adjusting around my classes so that I had no classes on tuesday and thursday when I came across Calculus 9b. I took 2 years ago, so I almost remember nothing. I was wondering how hard this math class might be...

Thank you as always in advance =]

P.S How can you tell if a class is weighted or not?

You might want to start at 9a if you are not comfortable starting math all over again. Also i dont think any classes are weighted.

dude i’m in your position
i haven’t taken calc in a year (i took it in junior year) and the counselor said take calc 9b
but when i tried to sign up i couldn’t even get a class -_-
so now i have to wait til next quarter
soooooooo doomed

@Jaesango sit in on a math9a class next quarter, or take the class and get an easy A.

@crzymunky21 depends on how much you like math… i love math so it was kind of hard but ok most of the time, but at the same time also i had to hold a number of study sessions where i TAed so the class average wouldn’t be a D… not trying to show off, but the students in that class seemed SOO lost (maybe a bad group) that i felt bad enough to try to help them out =\

its not that hard, just really really pay attention and abuse the hell out of office hours [=

they still have class openings for the math 9b 0_O
im still debating… i had another question. if i wanted all on classes on either M,W,F or T,R, which option is more preferred, to have 3 days off or 2 days off? Do class openings change around that often? I really wanted psychology but they currently have no positions…

Thank you as always in advance =]

depend on what you plan on doing thus 3 to 2 days . If you work take 3 days if you dont take 2

lol -_- my real last math class was trig/pre-calc in sophomore year. I took stats my junior year … but that class was a joke. 90% of the student slept in class and still passed with an A/B… and the teacher couldn’t teach. His AP pass rate was REALLY low. I wasn’t even able to take Calc cuz I had Cs in trig… lolol

Well, thankfully it’s okay in my major to not be prepared for calc YET. >_>

tip: dont base your classes on “i want all classes on TTH and MWF off” hell i wanted that when i came in…

some classes like math9b are amazing as a TTH class! others like engl1b not so much… TTH gives the profs more time to explain and link ideas together, where engl classes make you write more n you start to wonder off after being in class for so long, even the prof ran out of things to do.

(note, this is from experiences of only haven taken a small handful of 90 min classes, results may vary )

Are we really allowed to just go and sit in the lectures?
they don’t take role?
i’m still thinking like a highschooler haha…

@crzymunky21 - yea, they have classes open but my chem class kept interfering so i couldn’t sign up =/

yeah, big lectures you can sit in. smaller ones get, permission from the professor. I sit in on classes all the time xD
friday i sat in on a discussion, not a smart idea, at the end of the class there was a quiz - i simply got up in front of the class and left LOL

that’s cool though, you could like, sit in on classes that you’re about to take next quarter, sort of get a heads up on it

even if you don’t understand anything…

@MehediMD - hahhahah i feel you man
yea, i guess i’ll have to do that lolll
i asked my counselor if i can take it again but she was like “you’ll have it as a repeat and it won’t count for your gpa” -_-

Im taking 9B as a repeat instead of 9C because I just played around in my Calculus class didn’t take notes/study. I figured I should just take it slow and start off with something easier and have a higher chance of getting an A.

ooo i doubt that people can actually do this but i was wondering about walk-in registration, where you basically walk into a class and the professor can basically register you in right then and there. my high school teacher told me something about that and i was wondering about the process in general.

As for the calculus, im basically still stuck…i had the lowest grade in calc AB and yet i still passed with a 3 on the AP, while others with higher grades didn’t even pass -_-.

I would recommend you starting from 9A then since you had trouble in ur calc AB. Its better then going right into 9B and getting a bad grade.

See if any 9A classes are open and try to take it for this quarter.

I’d recommend starting with 9A because 9B is not an easy class. Seemed like most kids failed that class.

for anyone that has taken both classes, i was wondering if you knew what the difference was between 9a and 9b. what do you learn and what makes 9b so much harder than 9a?

if i take it at summer school in a different school i can transfer the credits right?
cuz i just need calc b and i’m done

crzymunky21

9a = calc ab
9b = calc bc

9a is the general fundamentals of calculus and then 9b is where you start going in depth and learning additional things about each subjects (or at least that’s how it is in high school)
