UCSB appeal 2018

@texcalmom someone in the official UCSB thread had their appeal approved the day after it was received

I just submitted my appeal today! Good luck to everyone!!

If our applications are still under review by May 1 then that could be a good sign because they said if they reach a certain number of California residents (full) on SIR day then all of us appeals get turned down May 1

Mine still says: Received - Decision Pending - It’s killing me.

Who had their appeal approved the day after it was received? Did they say if they were waitlisted or rejected?

Hey guys i haven’t submitted my appeal yet and will do so tomorrow . Is there any chance of it getting read?

@cornelius73 it will get read if it is sent in time. Hopefully they don’t reach cap number of students they can admit cuz if they do then I doubt they will read any appeals

@ucsbcandi I think I saw that person on last year’s thread. They were rejected at first but I don’t think they received their decision the day after. I think it was a few days to a couple weeks before they received the decision

I was waitlisted and sent in an appeal a few weeks ago. When do the appeal decisions usually come out?

I sent my appeal on 3/23. I’m a transfer student and they rejected me cuz I didn’t put 90 units coursework on my TAU. I think freshman decisions will come out at the end of April or early May, and transfer appeal will be posting a bit later like June.

@chianc I am a transfer applicant too but sent in my appeal 4/10 and they have not recieved it yet … have they updated your portal status to “appeal recieved”?

Once they receive it your portal will be updated - Appeal Received - Decision Pending

I contacted an admissions adviser and they said “Transfer appeals will be reviewed after June 1st 2018 which is the deadline for admitted students to respond to our offer. We will not know how many spaces we will have available until then.”

And my appeal has been received now

They updated my portal once they received my appeal. Now we all just have to wait :frowning:

Hey, I got waitlisted at UC Santa Cruz so I appealed. Im doing gender studies as my major. (UCSB- feminist studies) does anybody know If i have a good chance to get off waitlist

I heard if you appeal it’s easier to get in

Is it really? I’m not waitlisted, just appealing but I assumed they prioritized waitlisted applicants over appeal apps

That’s the big question… are waitlisted applicants prioritized before rejected appeals are reviewed? You would think so, but I can’t find any stats.

I called the admissions office today and they said they don’t prioritize waitlisted applicants over those who were denied admission. They said the students they accept from appeals are accepted based on the new information provided in their appeal letter. I was waitlisted and I appealed but I’m not expecting for my appeal to be prioritized over those who were denied.

Also notable: 5 others from my school are appealing (2 aside from me who were waitlisted) but the fact that we all go to the same school won’t influence our chance of being admitted from our appeal. I’ve heard from various sources that they offered about 9,000 students a spot on the waitlist this year, but the guy I spoke to today didn’t know how many of those students had opted in to be on the waitlist.

He also told me that the decision about my appeal letter would be released after May 1, but another student I know called and the admissions office told him he would hear back before May 1. Plus, even though they say they judge your appeal based on the new information provided, I know a student was admitted last year to ucsb from appeal after being denied and they had the same GPA as they did when they first applied.

All I know for sure is that they don’t prioritize waitlist applicants over those who were denied, and the more time that passes after May 1 the lesser the chance we have to be admitted because decisions are released on a rolling basis. Best of luck to everyone.

@marinstudent I don’t know who you’ve talked to that has told you they don’t prioritize waitlisted applicants, but I have talked to several ao’s who’ve all said that waitlisted applicants are looked at first. The only reason someone who was rejected would get in first would be because they are correcting a grade, class, or something REALLY important was left out. Waitlisted applicants have practically already been admitted, but they just don’t have enough room for them. Rejected applicants weren’t admitted at all.
