UCSB reception honoring top applicants CLASS OF 2019

Got one too  , Nor Cal

@skeptile

No, did you get invite from San Diego?

Congrats to those that received the reception invite. My D received one, but won’t be attending the reception or the university. UCSB was a safety school for her and she crossed it off the list after she was accepted to Berkeley.

I got the invitation too. However, what I really want to know is whether this guarantees admission for the student who received the invitation. The lack of reassurance is killing me :frowning:

No invitation and we live in sd. I saw someone with the same stats similiar major (CS) get the invite from the Bay Area. Applied CS but under Creative Studies.

@rhftw55 A good friend of my D graduated in 2014 and attended the same type of reception from UCSB. You can take it as assurance of admission if what they’ve done in the past holds true this year. Congrats!

As other posters here have said, my D’s friend said it’s basically a hype-fest for UCSB, showing the “top applicants” a presentation with video about the university, the surrounding Santa Barbara area (beautiful by the way), etc. Then once they get kids excited about the idea of going there, they’ll announce that all invitees are accepted. It’s good marketing for them, plus allows the kids a chance to mingle with other potential UCSB students.

I got invited too this year to the reception. Bay Area student. Does getting invited guarantee that we got honors?

Are you guys positive we are accepted?

last year , at the reception, they announced that the students were accepted. So I’m guessing we are accepted.

I asked my teacher who is a UCSB alumni and he usually attends one of these receptions each year because they ask alumni to attend and he confirmed to me that it does in fact mean you were accepted. so congrats to all of you who got in.

They don’t reject you if you don’t go. You’re already “unofficially” in

The LA receptions are filled up and I didn’t get to RSVP :((

Has anyone from the Seattle area received an invitation yet?

@ADY360 I think UCSB has only an Honors Program in L&S college, so if you applied for another college (for example Engineering) you cannot be in it.

I got invited to this reception too! Unfortunately I recieved the invite on Monday and by the time I tried to RSVP to one of the LA receptions they were already full. Does anyone know if spots eventually open up here and there and if people actually un-RSVP? I really want to attend one of these receptions.

^ the same thing happened to me =/
by the time I got on the internet, both LA receptions were full

^ I was also hoping someone who’s gone in the past can tell me how strict they are with attendance. If I show up without RSVPing will I be refused to enter the reception?

^ I was considering the same thing, though I don’t want to be rude.

thanks @james111. If any of you guys cant find a spot at the SJ reception, let me know. I can potentially open up 2 spots.

@ADY360‌ really you can open up 2 spots? I got the invite late too and they’re all full. I live by fresno area so SJ is closest for me.
