I hear what you’re saying and no what you said wasn’t offensive but as far as the UC system the blacks don’t apply because even though there are a significant amount of Blacks and Natives applying there much more likely to not get accepted. I don’t expect you to understand that though but if you do that’s great.
You really don’t have to read it if you don’t care stay out of it.
No need to get hostile, I’m just saying that this chat is already stressful enough with all of us trying to see if we got in. I understand why you would be tense, but please try to understand that I think I speak for everyone when i say it would be appreciated if you guys handled this argument on private so we don’t have to filter through the comments to see if anyone got any notifications. So please, we are already anxious waiting for a new post, please handle your argument in private. Thank you
Like someone else mentioned earlier, this forum is specifically for UCSB Waitlist (Class of 2021). If you don’t have anything that gives others hopes or valid information, it shouldn’t be on here. You got things to say to certain someone? Message them directly. Sorry to break it to you, but everyone here don’t really care about your race. Being Black shouldn’t give you the edge over anyone else. If you had high GPA, great test scores, and awesome E.C, you should have gotten in along with many others. Blame your results in your high school for your rejection, not your race. Every college looks for specific type of people, and there is no rule that says schools like UCSB must accept exact amount of applicants from each race. Statistics show that, ie. (https://www.insidehighered.com/news/2015/08/26/act-scores-year-are-flat-and-racial-gaps-persist), typically, Asians and Caucasians score higher on tests and achieve better grades in high school, and that explains why such highly ranked and competitive school like UCSB may choose more qualified students that happens to be in these couple races.
All aside, my friend’s portal changed from “Received - Decision Pending” to “Not Approved” today, so if you still have “Decision Pending” notice, that may be a good sign that UCSB is considering you as more spots open up, I wish you all good lucks!
Asianjock and JJordan goin at it like they Magic and Bird
Didn’t mean to be hostile my bad but I took what you said as negative you probably didn’t mean it like that but it is already stressful so we should focus on the positive tbh.
I’m sorry if I came off as negative but your right, we should focus on positive
@JJordan1121 @Olliesan Im sorry about that rant a few hours ago (my built up emotions just took over and I wasn’t really thinking clearly) and I agree that we should all focus on the positive. This past month has been stressful and frustrating for me but also I’m sure for you guys and everyone else on this thread as well. I really didn’t mean to hurt or make anyone feel bad. If I get anything back or hear of anyone else from my school getting something from SB I will post it right away. I hope you all are able to attend a school that you love. Regardless of the outcome, Im sure everything will be just fine. Good Luck!!
I’m sorry too and I totally understand :-*
are we thinking the second rounds gonna be sent out today?
I hope so, those who rejected sir had their deadline on friday and the first wave was sent around 10 AM last time so I’m hoping on it
calling admissions often and they always just say like wait till June 30th like come on give me a better date than that! You know if you’re sending some out today!!!
Still nothing. They really are twisting the knife on this one, and we may not even find out today
This is so frustrating like come on now some people didn’t SIR at all or on time, accept more people
seriously!
I don’t know if other private schools are like this but UCs in general are very rude in treating applicants. Having to wait for no end in sight and no efinite schedule for decisions to come out.
My D got waitlisted from UCSB and UCI. Honestly, it hurts to see some folks who got either admitted right away or got off from the wait list to admission with lower SAT and GPA than my D’s. She’s played sports (2 yr varsity volleyball), extra curricular activities, and community services just like many others. So very frustrating to see inconsistency and randomness of UCs admission criteria.
It specially upset me when I heard that these “lower” UC campuses are waiting for Berkeley and UCLA to finish their admission. How about accepting at least the in State students first from the waitlist since we pay sh*t load of tax to the state and will pay for many years to come, and then fill in left over spots with out of state or foreign students? All about money and all about school’s sake, not california residence or students.
It hurts me even more to see my D deciding to go to SDSU (at least it’s for nursing), after getting rejected by UCLA, UCSD, and wait listed by UCSB and UCI (only UCSC accepted) while seeing her friends with less GPA and SAT getting accepted, and yes, not to rehash the argument and I don’t mean being racist, but many of those with lower stats happen to be blacks, Hispanics, or mixed racials and chose to be one over the other.
Good luck with all but very sad to see my own kid, after trying and working very hard for 12 years of school to be rejected and dejected by randomness in selection which should’ve been fair and square. I am confident that everyone including my D will find ways to be resilient and persistent to pursue their goals, nonetheless.
maybe all the spots were taken by round one I doubt it but this is weird none of us have yet to hear from them
Agree with chookgoo 's post. Qualified (and some, overly qualified) Instate students are getting pushed aside to make room for international and oos applicants held to a standard that would be laughable if this wasn’t such an important decision. Diversity is also a factor, whether they choose to admit it or not, though the extent it plays in towards decision making is tough to say.
Glad to hear you “didn’t mean to be racist”, but you succeeded! Not only are you being incredibly disrespectful by calling black and Hispanic/Latinx students “blacks” and “hispanics”, you also don’t make any sense. UC’s are incredibly selective schools and your daughter is not entitled to admission. And while UC admissions are holistic, affirmative action is banned in California public schools. Also, the mid and lower tiered UC’s are waiting for UCB and UCLA decisions because there are major shifts in waitlists. Many mid tiered UCs will have spots open after previously UCLA and UCB waitlisted students are granted admission. Your daughter being accepted to SDSU for nursing shouldn’t hurt you, and you should be proud of her for being accepted into a great program that will provide her a lot of opportunities. Maybe stop spreading your uninformed negativity and using admitted students of color as scapegoats because you feel entitled.
@rajag87: you are the one who’s naive and uninformed. You can call me whatever you want with word playing like calling black instead of African Americans and Hispanics instead of Hispanic americans or latinx.
When I applied to UCs 30 years ago, I got the same treatment. some of classmates who have lower scores got into UCLA and Berkeley with same majors that I applied. yes, there was affirmative action well alive and UCs weren’t taking holistic approach. They still really don’t most of the time. No recommendations and not much emphasis on other stuff that much.
No one said I’m entitled or my D was entitled a spot at UC. I don’t know how old you are or even if you are a parent but you need to experience life little more before you judge me right away with words like "disrepectful, succeeding in being racist or spreading negativity. You either got special treatment for something that you didn’t work hard for, ie your race, or you are too young to realize how things are in real life.
