UCSD, housing is THE factor that makes me not want to go there, anyone else?

Most other UC's throw their transfers a bone and at least offer a year of housing to them. However, UCSD feels that they can just shove you in an apartment 3-7 miles away from campus and expect you to take it --. Thats just outragous, and really justs makes UC socially dead less appealing. I'm really trying to think of reason to attend UCSD over UCLA, but there really not giving me much to work with -- Am I the only one whos not going to UCSD b.c of the lack of housing on campus? Would you say joining a Frat would "counterbalance" the lack of on-site housing?

yah i dont like it either..

I totally, agree! I'm really upset, because I haven't found out yet. And, if they aren't going to have to transfer housing, then at least let applicants know at a reasonable date whether they have been accepted/rejected.

*so we can have time to look for housing, before off-campus housing becomes scarce...><

if sd do not offer housing to transfer, they should review + release transfer decision before freshmen, because they have housing / dorm, and we need to look for app.by the way, how much it cost for one room in sd?

ucsd is actually going to have housing for transfers starting in fall of 09. i've been down there several times and they've been constructing the buildings nonstop. for the majority of us, this will come at a year too late =</p>

what about housing our second year? are we still waitlist only?

Ugh, I'm only at a UC for a year after I transfer out from ccc. Fall 09 would be meaningless. Well houses and apartments in La Jolla are really nice, and if you have a car it isn't a long drive at all. I would think the only problem would be rent, which i heard is pretty expensive. $500+

the reason they do that is because UCSD has a very large and comprehensive bus system. by your second year, you can easily find a place to live as i am sure you'll have made some friends. however, it is extremely expensive (I found the minimum to be $500 a month, with 3 other roommates, this is with a big discount because they're friends of my sister).

i'm afraid UCSD housing is no reason for me NOT to go. my parents have purchased a very nice apartment with a gym, pool, pet friendly area and right in front of one of the UCSD bus stops. lol.

jamesshieh88 has a point. Check this out. UCSD Housing :: The Village at Torrey Pines Only 1,000 spots though, is that enough? Would they pick by lottery or first come/first serve?

For me UCSD's lack of housing for transfers is also the number one reason that I would probably not attend there. I'm a San Diego native and I still have family there, but they live in cramped quarters with no room for me unfortunately. Even if I could find a space on campus, it all seems to be very expensive . . . Looking on the website I couldn't find cheaper than $8100 for a triple. If there are cheaper apartments on campus, then I wasn't able to find mention of them online.

djplanet it says the complex is opening in fall 2009 which is a year too late for most of us haha

Looking on the website I couldn't find cheaper than $8100 for a triple

damn, i hope you mean $1,800.

I think $8100 is for the academic year so ~9 months.

I retrack this thread! IM GOING TO UCSD NEXT YEAR, WHO CARES ABOUT HOUSING ILL JUST JOIN A FRAT OR SOMETHING.

GO Muir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

its retract.

seriously La Jolla is by far one of the most expensive cities to live in...Guess ill just have to buy my own Million dollar home..LOL

I think i'll just live in my yacht.

Lackofsense:

Good plan, need a deckhand?

=P

premed4life

there's no frat houses, there is fraternities but they're not allowed to have a house(stupid la jolla law) i thought of the same thing..

I'll still join a frat cuz i wanna meet someone cool to roomate with. Maybe i'll find a bad roomate for the first quarter then meet someone in a frat to roomate w/.
