@amsstory- I KNOW RIGHT?! I thought I would be so happy when all of this waiting is over… but I have to wait some more until AFTER june 1st… what *es me off the most is that I should have got into UCSD even as a regular applicant (non tag applicant) because my gpa is high and i applied for a non impacted major… i’m REALLY REALLY *ED OFF you have no idea. I call and email them too much though hahahaha.

what have you called and emailed them about?

I just ask them why I’m wait listed… and my number on the wait list. They keep saying it’s because I did not finish my math requirement by fall 2010. This is completely stupid because that’s only a requirement for TAG not regular applicants. For regular applicants, I have to complete everything by Spring 2011… I am INSANELY upset and angry at UCSD.

What did they tell you about your number on the wait list? did they tell you how they determine it?

lol I was going to ask the same question that Random_Monkey asked.

haha well when i asked why i wasnt accepted i also asked how order on the wait list will be determined…that question was ignored

she said that there’s no number on the waitlist, and they will pick people off the wait list when space is available. I think it depends on your gpa, major, and if there’s space available. just wondering what are your guy’s gpa and majors? and do you know why you guys are on the waitlist too?

I don’t know what’s up with UCSD this year. I heard that they had over-enrollment last year, and are compensating this year by offering fewer applicants admission. I also heard they didn’t admit anyone from the waitlist last year, yet this year they seem to be admitting a bunch of people off the waitlist.

I found out yesterday I was accepted off the waitlist, but turned it down to go to Cal.
3.8 unweighted gpa, 2140 SAT (m660, r720, w760), and applied as an earth systems/environmental science major. Lots of extracurriculars, debate team, and unpaid tutoring.

So my question is if anyone knows if UCSD got too few applicants this year? Or, rather, did fewer people choose to attend UCSD this year so the school didn’t reach it’s freshman enrollment target?

i got off the waitlist!!!

^are you a freshman or junior?

I didn’t think they were reviewing waitlisters yet. Confused.

I know that UCSD had floods of TAG applicants this year. Thats why they had to increase the GPA to 3.6 for TAG! That’s why everything is so messed up. I was so confused about you guys getting into the waitlist, but I realized that you guys are freshmen! not transfers hahha freaked out a bit there

Yeah, I was admitted as a freshman.
But do you know if fewer people in general accepted UCSD’s offer of admission this year, because it seems to me that A LOT of kids are getting in off the waitlist in comparison to last year

Wait are these people freshman or transfer? Cause they aren’t supposed to let us know til after June.

Grr…there is a thread for freshmen who were accepted off of the SD waitlist…not trying to be a ******, but you guys should go post there so people here won’t get confused :-):

What is interesting is that there were some freshmen who were admitted off of the waitlist before May 1st. Since all freshmen are supposed to SIR to their college of choice by May 1st, I assume May 1st was the earliest date they gave them (like June Ist is the earliest date they gave us). It makes me think that it might be better to get your SIR in sooner…but…the person who emailed me back said it wouldn’t matter…le sigh

what are your majors and gpa’s? I wanna know why we are on the wait list!!
YEA some freshmen got their results early so I’m thinking maybe that will happen to us too. My friend said that last year the wait list results came out in AUGUST because they messed up. maybe no one wants to go to UCSD anymore because they keep messing up =.=
and would you guys consider going to davis? what other schools did you guys get into?

My major is computer science and my gpa is 3.55. I’m not entirely sure how they calculated the number of prereqs that I’m missing, but it is either three or one.

I didn’t know they did a waitlist for transfers last year…but I heard that they screwed up the waitlist last year for freshmen since they let people in through appeals before they let people in off of the waitlist. UCSD is infamous for messing up admissions though. One year they sent out an acceptance letter to the wrong group! It is a good sign that they accepted people so early from the freshmen waitlist, however. Hopefully it means that the transfer waitlist will be as well managed!

I only applied to three schools this year: Davis, SD, and SC. Looking back, I wish I applied to Berkeley. :'-(. Anyway, I was accepted into Davis and SC, and waitlisted at SD (obviously, heh). I’ll be attending Davis unless I am admitted off of the SD’s waitlist. Davis isn’t a bad school - it is the fourth highest ranked UC. I’m also extremely interested in grad school, so I figure that going to Davis wouldn’t be so bad (even if I am admitted to SD off of the waitlist) since I might do better there than SD. My biggest worry with Davis is that it will be difficult to do undergrad research, but it seems like SD encourages it.

your gpa is really good! I can’t believe you got wait listed, maybe computer science is impacted at ucsd? well… I can’t believe we both got wait listed … sigh i was really looking forward to going.

Don’t feel bad about not applying to CAL! Since you wanna go to grad school you should go to the easier school, bring up your GPA, and get into a super good school! My brother transferred to UCLA and he hated it! He said it was too hard and too much pressure… if UCLA is that horrible, imagine what CAL is like!! I also think that CAL would be a pretty big change in environment since we’re from community college and community college is generally pretty easy.

HAHA AND YEA. UCSD IS ALWAYS SCREWING UP. ITS HILARIOUS.

Econ
3.65

have you guys submitted your essays yet? im submitting mine this weekend.

@Random_Monkey – I have not submitted my essay yet. I hope to submit it this weekend or perhaps next week. I want to have a few people look it over before I submit it.

@Staceyh418 – My absolute favorite part of your post was this part: “HAHA AND YEA. UCSD IS ALWAYS SCREWING UP. ITS HILARIOUS.” lol lol lol I’m not what is up with UCSD and why they mess up admissions so often. Seriously, the only get away with it because they are a highly regarded school.

"Don’t feel bad about not applying to CAL! Since you wanna go to grad school you should go to the easier school, bring up your GPA, and get into a super good school! " That’s what I was thinking too. Hopefully I can do it! I agree that Cal would have been a huge change – especially the level of competition. That scurrs me. lol

Also, I don’t think computer science is impacted at SD :-(.

My bf is a computer science major at UCSD. I feel like he’s always working and he always has tons of stuff to do, and sometimes he barely sleeps =.=
oh hm… maybe its only the bio majors that are impacted.

HOW COME WE ARE ALL WAITLISTED!!! OUR GPA’S ARE REALLY GOOD!!! Did the UCSD admissions ever tell you guys why you guys are wait listed??
UCSD should get their act together and STOP MESSING UP.

and I’m gonna get someone to edit my paragraph / essay?! for me before i submit it. I’m going to see how good it is first, and then submit it in!
