UMASS Amherst Decisions 2022

I heard that if you apply to another UMass schools, which I did, you will get deferred because they don’t want to lose the spots for every applicant.

@comom25 Thank you- that is such good advice to speak to the admissions office! I’ll pass that insight on to my son so he can make the call. He would seriously consider attending UMass Amherst if he doesn’t get a good financial aid package from WPI or the other schools he applied to. WPI has only let us know about merit money. Hopefully there will be some need based money from them too. As things stand now, WPI would still be almost double the COA for Umass. (So he is seriously considering Umass Lowell over WPI.)

@sw9910 His 3.9 GPA is weighted, but still isn’t dismal. He’s taken some challenging courses in HS and had to work hard for every point. He’s also taking a 4th AP class this year since his Java class is also an AP course.

@HLGC My son was deferred from the mechanical engineering program. Congratulations to your son on his acceptance! Will he be attending?

Still waiting on EA nursing decision. Anyone else?

@LolliCoomassie I am 99 % sure he will be attending. Just waiting for final word from a couple other schools but this was one of his top picks from the beginning. I am positive your son will eventually be offered a spot. The waiting is brutal though. Good luck!

@Joezzzzz - my son did apply to other Umass schools as well. He was accepted and offered some really nice merit from Dartmouth (which was completely unexpected). He also applied to Lowell but RD not EA so we haven’t heard yet.

@LolliCoomassie good luck to you and your son. I am sure the counselor call will help…also a letter showing strong intent and commitment to the school have also helped…keep us posted, i am sure he will get in with those stats , they just might need a little ego rub…

Son was offered exploratory business track program…he applied to Isenberg (finance)…Not sure if it is better to be deferred to Isenberg or offered exploratory -business track…Had not heard of this option until he was admitted.

Based on the fact that everyone who heard back today got deferred I’m getting the impression that the remaining notifications are going to be rejections/deferrals… please tell me I’m wrong

@irlesson I don’t think that the rest of the notifications will all be rejected/deferred. I had combed through last years thread a couple weeks ago and it looked like many still got positive news after the deferrals starting coming out. Good luck! I will cross my fingers for you.

Yeah, it may be wishful thinking, but in looking at this board it does at least appear that they have offered decisions both negative and positive (mainly) in specific majors (the sciences, business, nursing, etc, etc) while not even touching many others. Again, MAY be wishful thinking, and MAY be, just not many other students applying to other Majors reading this board? Still, I don’t recall seeing any decisions at all for the Arts, Communications/Journalism, Education, History, Language…and many others.

Who knows what methodology, if any, they are using to release decisions. I do know, out of all the schools my son has applied to, UMass Amherst has been the wackiest for sure in getting the word out.

Good luck if you are still waiting! Ya never know…

I expected to be deferred because mid term grades close next week and I suspect they will want to see how I am doing. I am not an A student but my high school is very competitive so I expect to be admitted eventually. I don’t think it’s a big deal. My brother went through this last year and there is no reason for many things.

My D received email yesterday afternoon. Deferred for nutrition. In state, 1340 SAT, 3.48 WGPA, no APs, a good amount of EC activities…
