UMass Amherst University acceptance 2015

I was accepted on the 27th and my SPIRE was updated to accepted yesterday :)

I applied RD to UMass. From what I’ve been seeing here on the thread, UMass is going to start notifying RD people of their admissions in early March, but not within a 8-12 week cycle from when all materials are submitted. Is that correct?

My S applied EA last year on 10/31. He was notified by mail that he was deferred on 1/15. So if some of you are thinking of other schools don’t wait to long to apply as many of them have 1/15 as the last day to apply RD. He found out 4/4 by telephone (letter came 3 or 4 days later) that he was accepted undeclared. He waited 6 months to find out so I empathize with all of you still waiting. Just remember that being deferred does not mean a rejection. I have to say he was very upset when he was deferred but he had some great college advisers who talked him in off the ledge.

@bucky0926‌ wow that’s really weird there are a bunch of kids who got into umass with much lower stats than you son in previous years ( I saw his stats in the other thread). Does your school have a good relationship with umass? Like on naviance did u have a lot of kids accepted with your sons stats? I’m out of state in NJ. Also is that 3.3 unweighted or weighted?

I don’t think the school has any kind of relationship with UMass. They concentrate mostly on the CUNY and SUNY systems and schools on Long Island. I don’t know maybe they were seeing if they could admit him to the Sports Management program directly and that was why they deferred him. His high school puts out an excel sheet with everyone’s number, where they applied, where they were accepted/rejected, and where they are attending. Most kids who applied to UMass had higher GPA’s than my sons’ but lower SAT’s and they were all accepted. Which just shows that they really do weigh the GPA much more than the tests. With that being stated, I still feel it was the SAT score that tipped it in his favor. If he had applied with an easier major he probably would have been accepted outright. His 3.3 was weighted. Also at parents orientation we were told that this class (2018) had the highest stats ever (I’m sure next years class will beat his). Its getting harder to get into UMass and especially if you are applying to one of the hard to get into majors (ISOM, sports management, nursing, CS, enginerring).

Interesting. My twin brother applied a bit later than me, still EA, yet UMass has already sent a letter to me; yet not to him. We have similar stats although my SAT score is higher. It must be a weird way of doing things.

Our daughter applied 10/29 EA, and we are all anxious for a decision! 3 students from her HS were accepted over the last 2 weeks, so every time we hear the mail truck it’s a race to see if anything has come. Her stats are right on their line, so we are hoping to avoid a deferral. 27 ACT and 3.3uw/3.8w. Business Major.

Has anyone still not hear from nursing? Does it mean that I didn’t get into the program?? My sibling goes there will that help me in any way?

@Eagerstudent23 I applied nurisng also and still have not heard and I have no idea what it means if you still haven’t!

I also applied EA to the nursing program and haven’t heard back - the wait is driving me crazy especially as I see friends receive their acceptances.

Website updated to say my son was admitted and we should be receiving something in regular mail within 7 to 10 days. Been checking daily so they must have updated it last night. Wasn’t sure much would be happening this week. Sports Management major…applied EA 10/31. Beyond excited!!

@travelmore3‌ Wow. The spire online was updated before you received mail? I thought the mail would be first. That’s better! Congrats!

Spire updated first for me, the morning before I got an actual letter. Accepted to school of management and commonwealth honors.
GPA: 4.4 W/4.0 UW
SAT: 2050

My daughter applied to Nursing in Early October. I emailed the admissions office, and they send out all the nursing acceptances at once. She said that the spire account may or may not be updated before the snail mail has been received. My daughter has good gpa and great SAT scores… but has received 2 deferrals and 2 acceptances from other nursing programs. From what I have been told the competition for spots in Nursing Programs this year is fierce. Good luck to all… we are anxiously waiting!

@bluedoggy4‌
Does that mean they send acceptances first? Then deferrals or declines to a major??

I’m sorry… I misspoke! She said they send out all decision letters at the same time. Not just acceptances. I apologize. I know their nursing program is highly ranked so admission is going to be tough.

@bluedoggy4 I’m confused, I know of people who were accepted to the nursing program in the middle of December, yet I applied to the program and still haven’t heard anything so how can that fact they send out all of the letters at the same time be true?

Applied for math and still haven’t heard back yet

Applied to natural sciences and I still haven’t heard back yet

@travelmore3‌ What were your sons stats? We are waiting to hear about sport management. Not sure how many students are accepted. Thx.
