@nyclexyo wow, that’s awesome! Congrats on your acceptances as well! And I agree with you about us seeming pessimistic…but as you said, we’ve no reason not to.
And by the way, my username’s LBad96, not IBad96

@Dreambigalways - Same thing happened to my son 2 years a go. He had a 1380/1980 SAT and about a 3.3 uw gpa. He was applying for Mech engineering and he got accepted Undeclared. Yes, my understanding is that you have to take some specific basic courses and then apply to get into the eng school. ( http://engineering.umass.edu/current-students/admission-major)
UMass was his 2nd choice school. He is now at UCONN (1st choice school) in the School of Engineering.
Accepted 2nd choice Undeclared, 3.5 W GPA 1170 Math/Crit Reading SAT. All Honors and 1 AP-Calculus. Football Captain, Wrestler and DECa along with a decent amount of volunteer hours. A little bummed to not get into Accounting but was expecting it and happy to be admitted. If anyone has any experience with transferring into Isenberg after first year please post. Good luck to all those still waiting-should be any day.
Accepted!!!
I got accepted today! There is hope if h didn’t get in yet
I got second choice undeclared major, but I’m still so happy!!!
I got accepted today - first choice: Food Science (applied Oct. 31, received Jan. 22 in mail; no Spire update)
I’m from California, where it’s nice and sunny all day long. Winter reaches down to the 30’s at the worst. Anyone have advice on how to handle the snowstorm winters there? Also, any out-of-state students know how the whole traveling back and forth thing will work out, especially for the NSO?
@FutureWillyWonka Wow thats far! What attracted you to UMass? & Just make sure to invest in a nice and thick winter jacket, scarves, hats, etc.
@futurewillywonka would you mind posting your stats? My D is applying for food science in the fall and it’s a small major so hard to find info from other students. Also…would you mind sharing other schools you applied to? We have a short list but are considering expanding to west coast.
My son finally heard yesterday…3.7 27 ACT did not get into Engineering…second major Legal Studies with a $8000 scholarship. He is going to FSU
Finally heard back this morning…I have been denied. 2.7 UW GPA, 2000 SAT (1210/1600), 1 AP, decent ECs, great essay. Applied as a Management major with second choice undeclared. Oh well. The long wait made it no longer my first choice anyway.
UNC Wilmington, here I come!
Good luck, @lbad96! Your passion has been a treat on this thread. Wilmington is fortunate to have you! Don’t forget to update your personal journey thread!
@lbad96 I guess it wasn’t meant to be. Wilmington is a great school, I’m sure you won’t regret it
@lbad96 you’ll love UNC Wilimington!!
@NYIslekid still a little jealous your son will be in the warm weather!
@brucemag @fallenwinter @univin2015 thank you all! I’m positive that I’ll love it at UNCW!
I’m so sorry lbad that you didn’t get in. I’m sure you will be very happy at UNCW and although it might be cold it won’t be as miserable as Ma. That’s the first positive, I’m sure there are many more. Good luck!
@lbad96 sorry you were not accepted, but enjoy the beach and the weather at UNCW. Honestly I don’t know why anyone in their right mind would go to college in the northeast anyway. I have been trying to get back to California for 20 years…
@fallenwinter i was looking at colleges based on major, not the state or school primarily, that came second. I took an online tour and it looks beautiful, at least in the warmer weather XD and they doy really sell winter gear here in Cali, so clothes shopping will probably happen out there.
@cakeisgreat 3.3 GPA UW, 1680 SAT (570m, 590r), 11 honors and 6 AP, marching band kid with lots of EC’s because of it. I applied to Cal Poly SLO and Pomona, Fresno State, and UC Davis. All in-state for me. I do know, however, of a link (http://fnic.nal.usda.gov/professional-and-career-resources/academic-programs-and-other-educational-opportunities/college-an-0) that has a list of all the schools that offer some form of food science.
@ormdad ive grown up in weather well over 100 degrees in the summer, and im kinda tired of it. Id like to esperience my first snowfall, and snow in general. Who knows, maybe ill like it even more than the beach California’s great and all, but i also wanna travel and see new sights. I can always come back if I don’t like it.
@bucky0926 @ormdad thank you both!! I agree that there are far more positives to being accepted to UNCW than negatives from denial at UMass! And my asthma would probably calm down during the winter in NC as well.
