UMICH Dorm- BAITS

I should've done research before applying, and I thought I did, but I guess I didn't.
I chose Baits as my first choice, and I'm reading all these horrible things about it.
Is it really that bad, and if so, is it possible to submit another application?

Everything I’ve heard is negative. Rooms suck. You’re on North, and you have to walk to Bursley to get to the dining hall. Definitely wouldn’t be my first choice.

Crap… is there any way for me to change my choice to Bursley by e-mailing the dorm information office?

I don’t think it’s all bad. I have three freshmen friends who are living there right now and they seem decently satisfied. Their rooms are pretty big, at least.

Yeah I heard that, but I hear that the social aspect is pretty dull…

Horrible decision. Far from everywhere.

At least you can befriend the deer.

Holy hell, Baits is fine…

Big rooms
Private bathrooms
You have the option of getting to live in a quiet area OR going ot parties… not constantly having to deal with drunks ■■■■■■■
You can bring a car (there’s a parking lot)
You’re first on the bus to Central so you’re guranteed a seat

Baits is the worst dorm at UM this is an absolute fact.

Sounds like an opinion.

Id rather be here than East Quad

I signed up for Baits thinking it would be convenient to have a private bathroom and a big room. Not to mention close to the busses and rec center. And I heard the best food was at Bursley. Plus it was the cheapest option.

Am I missing something here?

I don’t expect to be in my room too often though, so is it still such a bad place to live?

No god Damn it. All thoughs things are true that you said. Pretty much.

Hahaha well since you live there, you probably have the most useful opinion.

I’m just afraid of the “no community” aspect of it. I hope there is like student interaction. What makes the above posters say that there is no life in it?

Baits is pretty dead, at least where I live. I am in the basement basically of one of the houses and it not like we are having hall parties. Don’t expect much in that aspect. You are gonna have to be social on ur own. If you hang out in the CC you might meet people.

But, like I said, don’t expect hall parties. I am guessing they don’t get more unsocial than where I live though haha. You’ll meet people and do stuff with them or join a group or something anyway.

Yeah I get what you’re saying about parties. But you said, “You’ll meet people and do stuff with them or join a group or something anyway.” That’s all I really want to do socially…meet new people and hang with them.

I can go to central if I want to party lol

I just sent an e-mail changing my preferences.
I really wanted a private bathroom but the things I heard about Baits, and not even having a cafeteria just swayed me away…lol.

Did they acknowledge your email? My understanding is that once you submit an application for housing they will not honor any requests for changes.

@res ipsa – yes they did. They just sent me a confirmation e-mail saying that they updated my request!

That’s a good thing to know. Thanks

My two friends and I just filled ours out and we opted for Baits as our first choice. We’re not big on partying, and we want private bathrooms, so we didn’t really care about the “lack of community.” We already decided that we would try to be instigators of activities within the hall  Plus, my friend has a car, so we can drive to central campus, or I’ll just get a bike. If it sucks, then oh well. It’s just one year, and I probably won’t be in my dorm a whole lot anyway.

I live in Baits even though I requested Central Campus. I promise it is FINE. My hall is very social and we are all super close. The walk to the dining hall (from Baits 2) is less than five minutes and taking a bus is no big deal. Having a private bathroom is very nice and I will miss that next year. I was not happy when I found out I was on North Campus but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. If you get stuck in Baits or Bursley just make the best of it - it’s not the end of the world, I promise.
