@isuncforme493 : Yes or No the first time may be easier haha.
Are you NC resident? I also applied to NCSU-Raleigh, but I know not much about its campus. I’m a SC resident.
@ScQuan Yes I live in Charlotte. I’m not very familiar with NC state. I haven’t been since I tagged along on my sister’s tour 5-6 years ago. It’s not the most beautiful campus but their buildings (library, student union, etc.) are modern and welcoming. A lot of my friends are in the engineering program there and really like it.
@isuncforme493 : Yes, they have nice engineering programs. However, according to what I know, city area around the campus is not a good one. Is that true?
So basically what you guys are saying is that the waitlist is in case a huge amount of people decide not to come? In reality, being waitlisted still means you won’t get in
I don’t mind Raleigh. @ScQuan . Not as lively as some other cities but I don’t see a huge crime problem or anything. Definitely better than Winston-Salem or Greensboro in my opinion.
@BryantB02 That’s really my only guess since year after year they say that they cannot accept anyone off the waitlist. A lot of admissions teams have a voting process. My guess would be that each designation has a cut off (2or 3/3 votes is accepted, 1/3 votes is waitlist, 0/3 votes is rejection). While waitlist may mean the same thing as rejection in the long run, if their admissions process is done like this, at least it means someone thought you would be a good fit.
I have to disagree. I think waitlist is much worse than reject, especially if their is only a small chance you will be accepted off it. I would rather be able to move on then have the thought lingering in my head.
However, we can’t choose the status they will give us in next few weeks. If I will be in the waitlist, I will spend time to make the plans for my Fall semester than thinking about the decision.
Yeah, getting waitlisted is pretty much the same thing as getting denied. There is a slim chance of getting an offer once on the waitlist.
If someone is waitlisted I feel they should immediately move on to their plan b school. Then if by luck if you win the UNC admissions waitlist lotto, you can then choose to enroll or not. Being put on a waitlist should not hold up your back up school decision. You have to keep moving and not count on being selected from the UNC waitlist,
i would also be interested in being in a group me if there was one made
As someone who was on the waitlist last year as a freshman applicant, I can say it is definitely worse than being denied
Just curious, but would being wait listed as a transfer be worse than as a freshman applicant? I’m asking because I know two people that were wait listed as freshman applicants and got in but I’m seeing that there’s hardly any chance of getting in while being on the wait list as a transfer.
@BryantB02 I know some people who were waitlisted as first-years and got in, too. But it seems like every year UNC posts on their blog that they are not accepting any transfers off the waitlist. So yeah it’s basically a dead end for transfers.
Actually, rereading last year’s blog from June they did admit “a limited amount” of transfers of the waitlist. But I would say don’t count on it.
I remember hearing that they admitted like 5 transfers from the waitlist… so chances still aren’t super high.
There was like 30-35 last year. About 4 the year before.
It says that “undergraduate admissions decisions are now available” on ConnectCarolina, however, my status still says not available. Don’t play with my emotions UNC. Any one else in this boat, or am I the only one?
@mcreallly I think they’re referring to the first year students who got decisions this week
that’s odd I thought they made those decisions weeks ago, perhaps that was early action.
@mcreallly I check my connect Carolina every day to make sure my to do list is empty, but it’s my understanding that we will be notified by email the day before our decisions are released! Less than 2 weeks (hopefully)!
