UNC 2017 Transfer Student Thread

I feel you on being waitlisted I was last year.

Ok so, the question at this point isn’t when decisions have been released in past, but how long after they sent email were decisions released. It seems like last year it was day after? how about years before? does anybody know, if not I might fork through old threads

Already did. Two years ago it was a few days after, same with three years ago. Only last year was it the day after.

The only reason I’d say it would be tomorrow is because they won’t come out during the weekend and they’d wait until friday or something to send the email if they were coming out next week

Ok so not guaranteed for tomorrow, but likely within week.

Yes If I had to put odds on each date, Friday would have the highest. But nothing is certain.

I got the email too, and in the past it was the day after. So tomorrow could be the big day!

@MitchHorn I am originally from MA. Why do you want to transfer from UC Berkley? Also where else are you applying?

Also the email was sent out at 3:13. This might be a good predictor of when decisions will be posted. Or maybe they just like eminem

Do you guys think that UNC did it in a more numbers-based than holistic-based because of the sheer thousands of transfer applicants they get? I know they wouldn’t have as much time to review a single app than a college that doesn’t receive as much transfer apps.

The past three years, decisions have been released the day after this email was sent out. Last year decisions were released aroun 4pm, the year before 1pm, and in 2014 5:20pm

@johnpfc3 , @MitchHorn : one of you is wrong. Which one is it? you are provided contradicting information. I’m tempted to believe John since he has been on forum longer, provided exact times and, admittedly, his side conforms with what I want to be the truth.

I’d like to think admissions is still using the holistic approach.

@johnpfc3 Essentially UNC has just always been my dream school! Never gave up on it.
I also applied to UVA, Vandy and USC, but I care most about UNC! How about you?

@Mastodon97 you may be right because I’ve been told by people who went there that they try to accept 1,200-1,300 transfers with the expectation that about 800 will actually choose to attend. I think the percentages depend on how much apply compared to that number. I still think it’s weird that decisions are coming out a week early

@HopefullyIGetIn I checked several times. In 2015 and 2014, TRANSFER (not regular) decisions were released several days after the email in April, not the day after. Guarantee that’s correct. You can check for yourself if you’d like.

@gwil7897 What do you mean? Just statistics-wise?

eh, hopfully we hear tomorrow then.

@Mastadon Its still holistic, the number of transfer applicants that they get is so small compared to first year applicants.

@PalmTree55 Well, I was thinking, last year around 3000 applied with a feb 15th deadline as transfers. Take away the rest of the month of February for the applications to be completed (which is a conservative estimate). That gives us the whole month of March which would mean that they are reviewing around 100 applicants a day. I’m no adcom member, but that doesn’t seem like it would be enough time to discuss the applicant in a holistic manner. This is all assuming that the committee that reviews transfer applicants is different from freshman applicants.
