University of Florida Fall 2016 Transfers

I was admitted!
CLAS
Major: International Studies Asia
GPA: 3.3
Transferred from Santa Fe College.

I was rejected when I applied for Summer B for the econ program. Hopefully now that I am in though I can apply for Econ as a second major.

I finally got accepted! My stats are on the first page! WOOOOO

Anyone signed up for preview yet?? I’m going on the 20th!

@PaloC3

I signed up for June 13th

How long does it take for the official mail of your decision to arrive with transfer preview information?

It usually take three weeks but don’t wait for the letter to sign up for orientation. As soon as you get your acceptance go ahead and sign up for orientation.

If you try to sign up, but get an error message, call the number provided and they’ll sort you out.

Here’s a link to the transfer checklist: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/trchecklist.html

Here’s a list of things you need to work on NOW (if you haven’t already):

  1. FAFSA (if you have Bright Futures or other scholarships, make sure they transfer to UF)
  2. Orientation (spots fill up fast)
  3. Immunizations (they want it BEFORE orientation)
  4. Residency (make sure it’s correct)
  5. Insurance (fill out the waiver so you don’t automatically get enrolled in UF’s insurance plan)
  6. Housing (for those who are staying on campus)
  7. Final Transcripts (make sure they’re sent to Admissions)

Any questions? Just ask.

Just a quick edit: If you got accepted, don’t forget to check the holds on your account. Any holds prevent you from signing up for classes. Check them at:
https://student.ufl.edu/cgi-bin/nirvana?MDASTRAN=RSI-HOLDS

UF will create your @ufl.edu email soon, until then, they’ll send any messages to the email address you provided when applying.

How do I sign up for the orientation?

Just got a memo online saying I have been accepted into the Chemical Engineerimg program, but I remember reading somewhere that your acceptance isn’t official until you recieve documentation in the mail. Should I wait until I recieve the letter in the mail or can I be sure I was accepted if that’s what my portal online says?

@Rbrowning7

Congrats on getting in to Chem.

Your acceptance is not final until you satisfy the conditions of admission and send in final transcripts. However, you definitely need to start registering for orientation and taking care of financial aid, housing, immunizations etc.

The letter is just an official notification regarding the online portal. The thing is, normally you’d wait for the letter to start on all of this but since we were given a decision fairly late (May-June) it’s best to get started now.

Did anyone who applied as an accounting major or any business major received his/her decision? Also, any idea when will business majors get their decision? Thanks.

have you heard of a decision from them yet. I also got told the same thing but I am still waiting for my decision @mastermind59

Rejected. Reason: not a competitive enough applicant.

So it looks like I’ll be going to either UM (I recieved a merit scholarship as well as generous aid from them) or the University of Southern California.

I’m pretty bummed, but everything happens for a reason.

Congrats to all the new gators!

@IAmSparkz That means you’re there as I type! Let us know how it goes!!

@Redbre Sorry to hear! But hey! UM or USC are not a bad consolation choice!

Alright, so I went to transfer preview today and it was great. The thread I linked a few pages ago was pretty accurate.

A few things to note:

  1. They have a table set up at sign in that deals with immunization forms. We also got a tote bag with a presentation schedule, campus map, information guide, fan and water bottle.
  2. There was a big breakfast with eggs, hash browns, bagels, pastries, fruit, coffee etc.
  3. The presentations were very informative
  4. I chose the financial aid lecture and campus tour for my breakout sessions, both were interesting although you all may want to chose something else in place of the tour.
  5. Around noon, outside became scorching hot. I’m not even joking. STAY INDOORS (avoid tour) and make sure to fill up your water bottles.
  6. Lots of options for lunch. I had enough time to eat, get my Gator ID card, and make it back in time for the final presentations. However, the ID office only has one camera and printer so the line gets long but the wait isn’t too bad. (You can also get your card throughout the day)
  7. Lots of tables with info for ‘Getting involved around campus’
  8. At the end of the presentations (1:30pm) they split you up by college for individual advisement. This can take anywhere from 1-3 hours, so plan to be there by at most, 5pm. My advisement took an hour because there were only a few engineering students but CLAS students will be there for a while as most transfer students belong to CLAS.
  9. Lots of staff around to answer questions and point you in the right direction.

They talked about everything from holds and registering for classes to campus safety and wellness. Glad to be a part of the Gator Nation

Any questions? Just ask.

@IAmSparkz Thank you for the detailed info!

Couple of questions,

Is there any specific documentation they asked from you? Also, during advisement, do they register you for classes or do they just teach you how to register? Were they helpful or do you feel like you had to pry information out of them during advisement? Like, did they suggest what courses to take for your electives and such or expect you to already have this in mind?

Thank you in advanced for this answering me

@PaloC3

No prob man, glad to help.

1)They didn’t ask for any documents from me. Make sure to bring your parking decal, immunization forms (if you haven’t taken care of it already). I printed my unofficial transcript and brought it only because it was on the ‘Transfer Checklist’ but my transcript was already in the system so I didn’t need it.

2)During one of the presentations they teach you how to use the registration system. When you go for advisement, the advisor gives you a list of recommended classes to take. After, you have the option of going home or actually picking classes in a nearby computer lab. (There are staffers to help you pick classes if you chose to do it there). I left because I was tired and had a long drive back home.

3)My advisor for Aerospace was very nice and helpful. Despite there being only four of us, he took his time to explain what to expect from our program and how to make the most of it. He answered all of our questions and at no point did I feel rushed.

4)Not at all. The advisor will look at your transcript and determine a suitable schedule for Fall and possible classes for Spring. Everything is recommended so you have the option to move things around to your liking. I had an idea of what classes I would be given by looking at the ASE curriculum and checking off what I completed already but they’ll take care of everything. No worries.

I’ll admit that when I got there I was very nervous. The sheer size of the campus was intimidating for me as well as the high expectations for students. On the other hand, everyone I met yesterday had a smile on their face and were willing to answer any question I had. I also made new friends who I’ll hopefully see again soon. Don’t worry too much.

Hi, im getting ready to apply when summer a finishes for spring 2017!
Major sociology
Gpa 3.29 ( still have classes to take so i’m hoping it will go up a little bit more)
school Santa Fe

Has anyone been accepted for this major? what were your gpas? Is there a chance ill get in?

Thank you!

@IAmSparkz I had a question regarding the preview. So once you pay online for the preview and you get your receipt, do you get any email giving you information on how to arrive for the preview and also a parking decal for that day? Thanks.
