University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

@WantInternship But recommenders would most likely just mention the positives of a student in their letters. They wouldn’t want to hurt their students’ chances.

@ljschlaif I haVe been monitoring UMich admission process for many years. With 25000 to 30000 EA last few year, only several thousands were admitted in the EA round each year. Majority were deferred. That is the reality.

Is a HAIL interview a good thing? An indicator they like you?

My D applied to LSA from Wi, but we are applying for ISS because her father is a resident of the State of MI. My question is, will her application be assessed as OSS (lower admit rate) or as ISS (higher admit rate). Any thoughts?

My HAIL interview invite was sent to my spam and I didn’t see it. Will this lower my chances? I really am interested in going here.

They made clear in the HAIL requests that not doing the interview could not hurt you - it could only help

My son just got into Villanova ED! Good luck to all the future wolverines! Go Blue!

HAIL Interviews were only for COE student applicants. Also, whether or not your daughter’s application will be IS or OOS is already stated in the new and prospective student portal under either application information or view credentials.

why don’t people just write our sister or daughter on this site? why do they use S or D. Tis stupid

so theres no chance it’ll be tomorrow or…

It can be any day now.

Do you know if they’ll email you the decision? or do you have to go on their web login to check your application status?

pretty sure they will email you the decision

I’m applying to the college of engineering with a 1430 SAT.
770 math
660 English
My UW gpa is 3.90 and weighted is 3.97, an I am in state. For extracirruclars, I played soccer, track, am copresident of diversity club, traveled to Perú for culture and language experience, and am in NHS and 2 other leadership clubs. I have around 110 hours community service that mostly revolve around cultural aspects and nature. Do I have a good chance for EA? I’m extremely nervous.

I also got 777 for my writing as I hope that helps balance my lower English score.

It’s true, I haven’t heard of anyone (OOS at least) who got anything but a deferral applying early action. In other words, I would expect a deferral and I wouldn’t get too upset about it. My son was deferred and got in a month later.

Aye, I got deferred from both. Hang in there! @Penguins0823

@blah2244 posted this detailed answer to all the basic questions many pages ago. People keep asking the same questions over and over, so I thought I’d re-post. I doubt it’s 100% accurate, but I think it’s a good speculative summary to most basic questions being asked here.

The “rolling” admissions answer is questionable in my mind. I don’t know if UM employs a FIFO (First In First Out) method, with their applications, but you never know.

What does ISS stand for?

I believe she will be evaluated for admission as OOS as she went to high school OOS (according to the registrar site). Their website has directions on how to be reclassified as in state for tuition purposes after admitted.

My daughter had to apply as an OOS applicant even though she has gone to all of middle and high school in Michigan as we are a military family stationed in Michigan, and are legal residents of another state. (military families can keep one state of residency throughout military career).
But once admitted (hopefully), the registrar says she will be classified as in state for tuition purposes as we meet their requirements (middle and high school done in Michigan and also military families stationed in Michigan get in state tuition) after we fill out an application and submit supporting paperwork.
