University of Michigan - Ann Arbor Winter 2017

@jessaw6 hopefully the university of Michigan likes upward trends because that’s what I’m hearing - my high school stats aren’t even worth mentioning, but ever since college, I’ve been having above 3.7 GPA semesters - some being 4.0. I’ve been at occ(freshman) and wmu(sophomore) and hopefully transfer into university of Michigan as a junior…i feel like a gypsy traveling to all of these colleges, but I’m pretty much climbing the ladder of education and hopefully this big ten university is my final stop…unless I plan for Harvard aha

I already know once that new link pops up I’ll be covering it up and revealing it one letter at a time- like one of those awkward texts you send to someone and you receive their reply.

@westbfieldLa123 I’ve heard lots of people say University of Michigan accepts people who’ve shown improvement. I hope that is the case.

I’ve never had horrible grades or anything but I have gone to a few other colleges with grades identical to yours! In my opinion, it shows that we are trying to better ourselves and havent quite found the best path. Hopefully it’s interpreted this way!

Anyway, yes when I finally get that decision link it will take a lot of courage to open!

@jessaw6 oh I am the same way. I’ve taken a peek at housing and everything. I can’t help it. I’ve even spent some time looking at the class catalog thinking about courses I could take.

@westbfieldLa123 yes there is a distinction between having your material in and having the app marked complete. And as far as I know most places love to see an upward trend. My stats are probably pretty similar to yours tbh. terrible high school GPA. but 31 ACT and 4.0 college gpa. I think it’ll all come down to credit hours for me. I know they really like to see 55 credit hours and I am just shy of that. The wait is killing me though. I applied in the fall as well and I heard back super fast so I kind of assumed it’d be the same thing but maybe I heard back so fast because I just had so few credits it was easy to deny me at that point. So maybe it taking so long is a good thing.

Has anyone found any other sites where people are having discussions about applying to this Winter 2017 semester? Besides the one other reddit page I attempted, no one seems to be talking about it.

My app was complete on September 19th.

I talked with the senior admissions rep at michigan today and she told me the latest anyone would hear back was mid November and that not many people are going to hear back for a week or so because all the admissions advisors are on the road right now.

@historyrepeat Thanks for letting us know! What are they doing on the road?! Another entire week… Man, I’m going crazy over here!!

@jessaw6 they go to different schools around michigan talking to students about what michigan has to offer and stuff

@historyrepeat that was more of a rhetorical question. Like how could they possibly be doing anything else but reading my application… Haha thanks though, I didn’t know they did so much!

Did anyone have an extra blank bar appear randomly under their “other required materials” section - I’ve never had that extra bar until I checked my Wolverine access today - wonder if it means anything.

Also, if you guys get accepted, or from a more positive standpoint, WHEN you guys get accepted - where do you plan to live ? I think I’m going to try to find a one bedroom apartment somewhere off-campus, maybe find a sub lease on Craigslist. As much as it is cheaper with more people, the privacy, and the reduced distractions & the cleaner environment is definitely worth the extra cost. And do you guys plan to take summer classes, or just plan to wait for the fall semester?

@westbfieldLa123 If I get in: I’m planning on dorming the first semester, just so I can meet people and everything is centrally located. From there the hope is I make some friends in my classes, in the dorms, or through clubs and get an apartment or house in the future. If I get a significant internship I won’t be doing summer classes, but if I do not get that opportunity I think I will.

@97hannah ive never experienced the dorm scene - there’s a lot of mixed reviews, some people say that they love it and it’s great for being social and others complain about roommates, the size of the room and the cost. My sister was at msu her freshmen year and is now in an apartment and told me you can be just as social outside of campus compared to being on campus; plus cost of the dorm and meal plans are ridiculous compared to buying your own food and being in an apartment. But I’m sure you’ll love it, some of my friends have met their best friends through dorms and are now inseparable - it’ll be a good experience- especially for getting to know people, it’ll be easier.

Anyone have updates??

nothing here

Same, most of us will probably hear back by November 15th

what makes you say specifically november 15th?

@kidinschool I was just basing my judgment off of what @historyrepeat said. He told us he contacted a senior admission rep and he/she told him the latest people would hear back is November 15th - also apparently the counselors were on the road last week and they’re back this week so decisions should be rolling out for some people this week sometime. What I’ve seen based on observation from past threads, the people that heard back really early, like early October, and even mid October are usually the people that applied to the university before; the majority of people usually get their decision mid November “ish” and based on when you sent your application in. They kept telling when I called there’s a 6-8 week turnaround. I’m not sure if the 6-8 week turnaround is starting from when they get all the required documents or when your application is marked complete - it takes 1-2 weeks to mark your application complete after the mandatory information is received, I believe. Hopefully that helps a little! I know it’s kind of annoying dealing with the anxiety on waiting for a decision - just gotta be patient and also double check to make sure your application is marked complete because you don’t want an email saying that they require extra documents from you because that’ll delay the decision even more.

@westbfieldLa123 @kidinschool

I actually met with admissions twice since then kind of out of coincidence. But yes I was told by the senior Admissions advisor that the latest we’d hear back was by mid November. Although I’ve heard some mixed things from other people. I was told that most of the admissions people are on the road right now so that’s why not many people will be hearing back right now. Although in regards to the 6-8 weeks I am pretty sure that the 6-8 weeks starts once your app has been marked complete.

Also the hearing back by mid November, that is only in regards to LSA transfer. It is my understanding that COE and the other schools take a bit longer than that.
