University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2020

A simple heads up from admissions regarding percentage of decisions released to date and whether or not there will be another “wave” this week would be great. Even a “Guys, really sorry we are still having committee meetings but thank you for your patience.” would help.Pretty please UofM?

In the past years, large batches of admission notice should have been announced by this time although there were sporadic admissions afterward. Whatever left, it would be not as large batch as in the previous rounds and may be not on Friday. More rejection and waitlist notices will be released in the next couple weeks instead.

I am feeling all of your pain, as a parent. My son won’t even look at any of these posts, because he basically gave up when he was deferred. I admire all of you students who are out of state or country who have applied to many great schools and are willing to go anywhere for a great education. The problem my son has is he does not want to go far away. Miçhigan has always been his dream, we are in state, and he was born and raised here. He has followed the sports teams since he was a little boy. He is in the range 3.8/unweighted 4.2/weighted, 31 act. He wants the atmosphere of Michigan, as well as the academics. He really is heartbroken. He has a a really smart class of students and 10 kids have already been accepted, which is more than the norm from our school. We are not expecting good news at this point just have to figure out where we go from here.

You should not give up hope. For many reasons, admissions are coming out differently this year - the patterns from previous years are not indicative of what is going on this year.
As previous people have mentioned, no one really knows so all you can do is wait.

Thanks for your thoughts, we are trying to keep our son positive, but also trying to be realistic. There seems to be more oos accepted at least on this site than in state students. He applied for LSA, hopefully premed

Our ISS is a large feeder school & many with awesome stats are waiting. “Conjecture” only but, it’s more of a slam dunk for students like this…

I come from an in-state feeder school that Michigan routinely accepts over 100 students from a year, but this year there are still a lot of students waiting for their decision. It’s been said many times before, but it’s a hard year for admissions.

@whizkid98 Can you say which school?

Just came home from a spring break trip looking at a number of colleges (daughter having been deferred from EA in December). Just came home and happened to check Wolverine Access for the ##$%&#(th time . . . and . . . she was just ACCEPTED to the School of Kinesiology. Good luck to all of you folks who have been waiting for so long!! I hope you are getting similar positive responses. D is over the moon!

Just got wait listed …,

Just got waitlist

Is there any reason NOT to accept your waitlist?

This is beyond the point of annoyance. College admissions is definitely one of the most stressful times of my life. It’s like the anticipation and excitement about Christmas morning except you don’t know if you’ll get a gift or a lump of coal. I still don’t have my decision.

Just got wait listed

Have you guys been getting decision notices today by emails or just via Wolverine Access? Or both? Nothing here yet.

My son just got waitlisted. It was on Wolverine Access.

Looks like they are waitlisting people. They did this last year. Relatively few outright rejections. Majority put on waitlist.

@“Catamount 84” Tell your son not to be disheartened. I have several friends who didn’t get in as freshman and transferred after a year someplace else. A deferral means they do feel you are qualified. It’s not the same as a rejection.

.

We’ll buck that trend…rejected, as expected. OOS, 35 ACT, 4.1 WGPA, computer science. Now we can finally move on!!

As a parent I am finding this extremely trying. My son applied to the university if Michigan through recommendations from his guidance office. They really tried to make students independent of parents. At 57 thousand dollars a year we cannot afford this school. He is a good student weighted gap 3.8 and ACT 32 composite 35 math. From what I have heard in our area of the country New York. Many students with better credentials are not accepted in the end of this crazy process. This is just about April. Can the university not make up its mind. I was hoping for a denial, but he got deferred. Now I just want him to get the not accepted so we can move on. He has been accepted to other great schools. I want this decision made. If the applicants performed the way the university is acting, the university would not want them. I have a hard time understanding how they cannot make their decision and are causing so much angst among students and families. I would think they should give preference to their own in state students and get this over with.
