The “waves,” as we refer to them, are generally the RD releases on or about 2/1, 3/1 and 4/1, where we see 30-50 students post their decisions here on CC. But it just depends on how you define a “wave.”
I would call those posting a decision or a couple decisions now in June, “ripples on the pond.”
We can’t make any presumptions as to how Umich plans on doing things. As many people have previously said, this year has been very strange overall, and for all we know, they could release one last big wave. A more likely possibility is that they follow a sort of rolling method, as they take small clusters of students off the waitlist at the time. All we can do is keep hoping as we wait.
I just spoke to U of M office of admission. They confirmed final decision will be released by June 30th. According to the admission officer they have given several students extensions, I guess to confirm admission. They are waiting on the final count. I was also told they take 50.5% instate students and 49.5% out of state every year. There goal is to keep that ration however given unusual circumstance not sure what the final percentage will be.
My daughter just spoke to her Admissions Officer - the one who ALWAYS emails/calls back. My daughter spoke with her and the AO says “Yes, they will be taking people off the waitlist until June 30.”
My daughter’s questions was - “Are they still taking people off the waitlist?”
That is a good question @MickeyEarwax. But I know on North campus they were supposed to knock down Northwoods 2/3 and now they are not. Theory is they might use those 350 spots. Also they only guarantee Freshman housing. Many live off campus. There are also new spots on Central campus.
While the article is a negative, I think we just have to be patient. If there were zero chance, we’d have been told by now. This process is not for the faint of heart. Hang in there and hope for the best. Good luck and if it doesn’t happen, at least you’ll have gone to the mat. Peace.
Ironically, the worst case scenario (no on campus activities this fall) may be the best case for those on the waitlist. I imagine there will be a flood of deferrals or straight out declines under this scenario.
