University of Michigan Waitlist 2024

Did they close the list?

Best of luck to you. Did you get in? @gummybear202

I applied for CoE but now think LSA would be a better fit if I were to get in. The portal still allows me to ask for the shift, would this hurt my chances in any way? Would they even consider a shift?

No one here would know your chances of coming off the waitlist at either school. LSA has about 4,200 spots. CoE has about 1,400 spots. So about 3:1 ratio, but no ones knows what, where, how many, etc. spots will open. You would think LSA, but the next spot(s) could be CoE.

As for considering the shift, I’d call admissions and ask them.

i think you can switch as long as you have the option in ur application page

i don’t know if it’s too late since it’s literally a day before july, but i think you should contact ur ao about this

Back in the precovid days you couldn’t change your major till you were in it for a year. But it doesn’t matter since you really don’t declare your major till the end of your sophomore year. Also all students LSA and engineering etc take all your prerequisite classes together. Once you meet with your advisor you would just take the classes you want to but… For engineering to LSA you might be able to do it after your first semester but again doesn’t really matter.

No matter where your going you chose engineering for a reason. Many students have no idea what engineering really is. My kid might go into higher end management, consulting or finance with his industrial engineering degree.

Take at least the engineering 100 https://eng100.engin.umich.edu/

This will give you an overview. Many are surprised what they find out.

Anyway to transfer to LSA from engineering fill out the form and your good https://admissions.umich.edu/apply/other-applicants/change-u-m-schoolcollege

a bit of hope, even uw Madison had a wave today. so hopefully even Michigan may take off some more kids off the waitlist

Yes! 2 of my sons close friends were accepted! Wisconsin is where my son is planning on attending so it was great news!

From a wait list? I was thinking that waitlist is just for a show at this point :frowning:

Columbia closed their official waitlist but offered a small percentage of those applicants places on an additional waitlist if spots happen to open up. If Michigan does that I swear to god lmao.

I think that would be preferable. If you have zero chance, you can move on. If you still have a shot, you wait it out.

@RohitSinghal I think switching now would show that you are eager to get in by whatever means. Could be a positive or a negative. Your call.

bruh 7/2 already

i was expecting an update from umich yesterday: a rejection letter, or an extension, or anything

Someone just got off the waitlist for UC Berkeley today. Keep hopes alive.

^ emory as well

Just realized that UMich made slight changes to the FAQ webpage

“When will I know if I’ve been admitted?

COVID has presented us with unique challenges, and we are hoping to release the waitlist in the very near future.”

the new addition^^

@Maduka is that all it says? Do they mean release more acceptances or close out the waitlist?

the new faq page for waitlist applicants is basically the old on with that one section added in

i have no idea what they mean

really hope we have a chance

Yeah. Would like to attend UMich with you and schmendy27. ?
Fingers crossed for us all.
