Squan66 we are in the same boat as you guys, feel, your pain - my D is also crushed- deferred from UVA, I’m sure at this point we will also get the thin envelope from Wm Mary… she is one of the top students in her grade and it all seems so unfair and at times arbitrary.
Accepted, but without merit so my chance of attending is minimal
Stats UW: 3.93, 11 APs (so far gotten 4x5s and 2x4s)
SAT: 2220 (790, 670, 760)
Major: The politics, law, philosophy, econ thing
ECs: SG of top MUN program in the country, Captain of XC, Black belt in karate (nationally ranked been practicing 13 years), 4 years of band/orchestra as a bassoonist, music related community service, summers spent doing Junior Guards (reigning state champion in paddle boarding)
Awards: lots of MUN awards, 1st place at Regionals for Karate, State Essay Winner for a history essay, Commended National Merit, Scholar Athlete, AP Award of Distinction, 1st place regionals for Paddling
Interest: I attended a Richmond event at my school and interviewed (I think went very well, but I don’t think it counts so…)
Essays:
Common App was about getting called a communist in MUN bc I don’t say the flag salute, Spider essay talked about the lessons I learned surfing on a Spyder surfboard
Demographics:
Female, White, Upper middle class, from CA
Anyone know about the music scholarship? I’ve been invited to audition, but am unsure if it is worth the trip as the scholarship ranges from 5-25 grand and I would need it to be on the upper end of the spectrum to justify going to Richmond instead of Cal at in-state price.

Sat - 1350
GPA - 94.48 (unweighted) at a very rigorous Catholic High School
Extracurricular - 10+ clubs including 100 hours of hospital volunteer work
Decision - Wait listed
Anyone knows what percentage of students wrre taken off the waitlist last year?
@lemondrop2 It varies each year, but for the 2016-2017 school year: 3209 were offered a spot on the waitlist. Of that number 1236 accepted a spot on the waitlist. Out of those accepting a spot, 60 were admitted.
@lemondrop2 the year before 150 were admitted from the waitlist, so it does vary greatly each year. I will say I was placed on the waitlist along with 10 other people I know and none of us got off of it.
@rvalover7 thx for the info!!
@lemondrop2 no problem! If you have any questions feel free to PM me
D accepted. 3.95 GPA, 33 ACT, many AP/IB classes, heavy involvement in theater.
She received a generous financial aid package but we still don’t know if we can make the finances work.
I’m international and just received this email:
“The University of Richmond has reviewed your application for admission.
Because we are need-aware for non-U.S. citizens, we are not able to offer you admission and financial aid at this time.
If funds become available for your four years of study prior to May 1, please email the International Financial Certification in the minimum amount of $69,420. Once the university receives your International Financial Certification form, it may consider extending you an offer of admission if space is still available after May 1.”
Am I kind of a waitlisted applicant now and do I still stand a chance? I’m just so devastated since I got rejected and deferred from 2 schools just within a week. Thanks in advance!
@MON824 @cloudysmom thank you very very much for your compassion. I truly appreciate it. Yesterday was a rough night…
@MON824 to answer your question, yes; it varied greatly from what I got from the NPC. The FA package and my estimated yearly payment is unfortunately about $2000-$3000 greater than what I even got from FAFSA for my EFC. I don’t really understand how they calculated it but I’ll be sure to contact the financial aid office. So I was very surprised, especially since a few out of state private schools I’ve applied to gave me more generous packages…again UR is unquestionably my first choice so if I can make this work out I’ll do what I can.
@haleytran99 You’re basically a waitlisted applicant and you can enroll if they have space. So if you can come up with the money they will most likely enroll you if space allows. I think its a little bit different than being strictly waitlisted. They want to consider you again if you can pay money. So you were definitely one of their choices, they just couldn’t provide you aid vs. someone on the waitlist who can full pay, but they have to wait for someone else to give up a spot. I think that makes sense?
@richasians This link doesn’t seem to work, is this the schools official page or an unofficial one?

@cloudysmom Did you copy and paste the link and delete the spaces before and after facebook? if that doesn’t work then you can go onto University of Richmond’s website and search up admitted students. It should have the link to the Facebook page on there along with ordering class t-shirts and other things for the admitted student.
@richasians Um, no, embarrassed to say I didn’t know to delete the spaces, lol. My D already is on their official page, so thanks though. The t-shirt thing was fun, lol, nice they are giving those away! Hoping for a parents FB page!
