Thank you so much cgemaj - we were going nuts digging through emails thinking we missed something and arguing about DD forgetting something (LOL - stressful times)

Anyone have recommendations on places to stay for an admitted students visit? My hubby & kid are going; if I leave it up to them they’ll stay in, like, a Motel 6. Hoping there’s something in between that and a Hilton.

We stayed at the Cambria. It was about a 15 minute walk through the capital. There were a few closer.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn downtown. Think there was a Courtyard across the street, too? Campus wasn’t too far - about a 15 min walk.

We have stayed at the Graduate and it is across the street from campus, on block from McKissick (usually college tour starts here). We have also stayed at the Hilton about 5 blocks away, nice and good location to restaurants.

We usually try the Marriott on assembly as it’s literally right there. But it fills quickly. We also like the Hampton inn off of I-26. Customer service there is amazing.

We stayed downtown at a holiday inn property. it was clean and nice, and was supposed to be a 5 minute drive to the parking garage for admitted student day. There was so much traffic getting to the garage that it took 45 minutes, instead. There was also a race going on in town, so some roads were closed, which may have contributed to it. In hindsight, though, I wished I had either left the hotel an hour early, or just taken an Uber to the admitted student day and skipped the parking stress altogether.

It’s probably already sold out, and the prices are 4x normal for admitted student weekends, but the Graduate is very nice and has parking

Thanks all. I think my guys are gonna stay at something near I-26 and just go early to the event. There’s no way they’re paying $250+ a night for this. If I were there it’d be different, but they’d rather camp, tbh. Very low-maintenance men.

Does anyone know if UofSC charges tuition by the semester or by credit? Meaning do they charge all full time students same cost regardless of how many classes taken or do they charge by number of credits?

12-16 credit hours is one set tuition (full time). Most classes are three credits, courses with labs may be either 4 credits or 3 credits plus a lab (1 or 2 credits). Above 16 adds an additional charge per credit hour.

It sounds like you may have been selected for FAFSA verification which is usually a random process. I saw this in another thread so thought I’d share.

Yup she was. We have an older daughter there and she also got it. My 2023 though was also sent the email to set up her VIP ID. Again, my older daughter didn’t do this until AFTER she got accepted so it makes no sense

DD had to do FAFSA verification from Penn State and it was different then the VIP ID email we got. We actually had to supply documentation confirming her name at Penn State. The VIP ID just had us set up an account.

Interesting. Well who knows then, maybe it does mean something after all! My son didn’t even apply here, but it’s in my neighbor’s daughter’s top 2 so I decided to check out this thread to see if there was any good info I could share with her since she doesn’t go on forums like this. Good luck!!!

Yup the verification is different then setting up the VIP ID. I say stat wise mine has the chance of either getting in with no merit or deferred. It’s been a crazy year. I would love her to go to usc but the waiting is making her loose interest.

I am confused about the VIP ID. My daughter was accepted EA in Nov. She recently got an email that said something about setting up a VIP ID. Is this something that has to be done before receiving any financial aid/merit offers? My daughter is still making up her mind. It said in the email to contact them to find out about any unsatisfied requirements but she emailed the address and no one ever emailed her back. She got the idea that maybe that is something for when you are ready to commit?

You can set it up
it won’t mean you have accepted. I’m also confused about it as I’m pretty sure my older daughter didn’t set hers up until she committed.

Ok another clue here
son deferred snd just got an email from the registrar that his US citizenship was verified. Did you all get this? It came to my patent email, unlike the VIP ID email that just went to my son.
