University of Virginia Class of 2021 EA Discussion Thread

I was put on the waitlist for the London First program! It’s a little bit disappointing, but that’s okay.

Anyone going to Days on the Lawn on March 20th?

I’ll be there with my daughter! Coming down from Northern VA

@kathyrain My D and I are heading down on Sunday from MD. Looks like the weather will be nice!

We are coming down Sunday night as well, looking forward to it!

We are coming from Ohio for March 20, excited and looking forward to a nice weather.

Life is hard, and full of rejection. Please don’t let the fear of rejection stop you. Do your research - if you think greek life is something you’d enjoy, go for it…without worrying about fear of rejection. If you do get rejected, learn to deal with it…it likely won’t be the first time it’ll happen in life. Prepare for it too…because you know it might happen. College allows you to find yourself. Make yourself happy, and don’t worry about what other people think. Best of luck.

I just gave up my spot. Good luck to those on the waitlist.

Is Rodman Scholarship given to very few who are given a spot on the Rodman Scholars program?

Hello, congratulations to ALL admitted to UVA, … just…, anyone going to UVA and also paying full OOS, out-of-state, tuition here? It is such a significant cost difference as compared to that of in-sate Honors College with scholarships offered. Any thoughts? Thanks.

@jwkjwy We are considering UVA out-of-state. I think that many OOS UVA admits are high-stats kids who also have offers at higher ranked private Unis. UVA OOS will be $10k to $15k cheaper per annum than many top private schools.

@londondad, Hi, so glad to hear response. Oh, I didn’t know that. I just keep receiving the ideas from my friends and on the web that UVA’s OOS cost is probably, if not the highest, the 2nd highest expensive among public schools. It just feels so odd knowing your in-state classmates around you paying like $30,000 and less, and you are paying $60,000 or so.

@jwkjwy it is my dilemma too cause my D didn’t get into any higher ranked private schools. so it’s between in-state honors ($15,000) and full cost of OOS ($65,000). Also the distance is 350+ miles…

@willbetternextd, tell me about it !!

Just don’t know if the cost justifies the different journeys of the college experience. Many people say to save tuition at honors programs at good in-state school, and it makes sense at some points. But 4 years of college life can have significant impact on individual growth. :-S

@jwkjwy , it’s a tough decision to make since our in-state school is nowhere near UVA in term of ranking. Although she doesn’t mind going to state university, UVA is just too good to decline. The choice is hers, as a parent, I will support her decision (only if she can make one).

@willbetternextd, A+ parents !! So she is still deciding? Do you mind sharing which state you’re in? We’re from NJ.

@ jwkjwy, us too.

@jwkjwy - My D was accepted oos and will most likely decline and go instate to UCLA. The two are ranked very similar, and while she would love the experience of going oos, the cost difference doesn’t make sense. We are just waiting to hear what credits UVA will give her and if it will be enough to get sophomore status, which may close the gap a bit.

@gratefulmama Glad to know your daughter is in a good position to choose between 2 great schools. UCLA is definitely a good choice. Just wondering that credits at UVA you mentioned, what’s that for? Is that for freshmen? Or for transfer students?

@gratefulmama although I’m alum of UVA and had a great experience, UCLA’s reputation is on par with UVA. In her shoes I’d go to UCLA and save the money.
