Unofficial UNC Fall 2016 Transfer Thread

Can someone tell me what criteria I should look for when choosing residence halls at UNC? and what is the best residence hall? I am going blind, I don’t know what to look for

@Gowolfpacks18 My son saw your post and he’s on it. Thanks.

@TNIU94 Look at the videos of the dorms/RAM apartments on youtube. That might help you make up your mind. (look at the bathroom situation and that’s all I’m saying)

If you go to their housing website under transfer student. There’s a quiz you could take and see which residence hall will best suit you. Hope that helps

@NosyParent16 good to hear :slight_smile:

Has anyone here took the foreign language placement test via Sakai?? I am having trouble locating it…I originally signed up for Latin but the advisor I spoke to has recommended not to take Latin…but to see where I place in a language I took in hs.

Will it take you to the correct place from http://languageplacement.unc.edu/

@NosyParent16 wow I can’t believe I overlooked that on the website earlier! Thanks

@Gowolfpacks18 Good luck with the foreign language placement test. I took four years of high school German and I am now one of the top two students in my second-semester level college course. Missed the stupid thing by two points. TWO POINTS. So now I get to retake German 102. This will be the most costly reminder ever to review for 15 minutes before jumping in headfirst, sans preparation (I’m still kicking myself). But, it will probably be the easiest class I ever take at Carolina :)) (Which is really good since I’m starting Arabic this semester as well…)

Now, on my transfer credit report it also lists GERM 999 S and FREN 999 S as things they have accepted, which looks like it comes from my high school days. Anybody know what exactly they mean or their implications?

I was wondering that too! I have one for Spanish

Has anybody still not even heard back yet? I did not even get a decision of whether I am waitlisted or just flat out rejected still.

I think the 999 with your language is the equivalent to your level 1high school language course you won’t have to retake but no actual credit.

My transfer credit report finally posted online last night. Feels good to be registered for courses that I actually need!

@TranslationLost glad to hear it :slight_smile: signing up for classes made me even more excited for August lol

If we’ve received our transfer credit report, why is it not on Connect Carolina???

@carolinagirl811 You have to accept the admissions first and then it will be updated

Has anyone gotten their admissions packet yet? Just got mine.

@eespos1, I accepted on April 26th, but maybe it just takes some time to process? thanks!

@KimberlyNStew
Just got mine a few minutes ago!

@carolinagirl811
It took mine a while to all update. I would give it a few days.

No packet yet for my son - we’re in Texas.

Was anyone able to go to the transfer tour and/or reception?? How was it? :smiley:

@Gowolfpacks18 I went and it was really a big help. The tour was a beautiful and informative experience. The reception enlightened me about what I really want to do thanks to a couple advisors. The transfer student panel was the highlight, because you felt like you could relate to them. They gave a lot of tips.
