Today I spoke with an admissions counselor. Seniors who applied by the December 1 deadline and will be invited to interview for the Stamps, Mork, Trustee and Presidential Scholarships will receive notification by the admissioins committee the end of January or the beginning of February. It is planned to be a bit later than last year. The number of applicants is huge and they wish to give careful consideration to every applicant who applied by the early deadline.
The actual date students receive the admissions packet will be determined by the distance from the university. Recipients in the zip codes closest to the university have heard first in the past.
Last year around 27,000 seniors applied by the early deadline.

@Georgia Girl - Did they say anything about releasing the Dean’s scholarship recipients at the same time? From reading previous years I noticed they found out at the same time as Trustee/Presidential.

It is my understanding that everyone who applied by Dec. 1 will be notified late January about the status of their application. “Status” could mean could either mean “congratulations” or “we are still deciding and will let you know April 1.” I have heard that they do not deny applicants at this time. They will only accept or defer to the April 1 date.
This was also tweeted yesterday…
Final admission decisions will be mailed to all first-year applicants by Apr 1.

Oh my goodness, that tweet makes me really nervous.
Lol I applied for the Film and TV Production in the School of Cinematic Arts.
I went for a tour about two weeks ago on my birthday and the SCA admissions counselor said 54 of about 1100 applicants to that program get in. That’s only 5%.

I know many applicants are really hoping for (maybe even depending on) one of the large merit scholarships so I thought I’d put in a little perspective here while you wait to hear. USC does not have EA or ED, as you know. And with the huge number of applicants who apply before the Dec 1 deadline, USC has been making an effort to stay in touch with all of you–even if you are not a finalist for Trustee or Presidential, Mork or Stamps. This does not indicate a deferral. USC does not make any qualitative decisions this early at all. It means, however (as is stated in the letter you will likely receive) that your application is being reviewed. This sometimes comes as a big disappointment, of course. There are many who may not consider USC viable without a big scholarship. But if USC is a top pick for you, you should really wait to see–if admitted-- what sort of FinAid package you will receive, what other scholarships (including Dean’s, departmental, alumni club, Town & Gown, etc!) may be offered. USC is more generous with FA and merit scholarships than most other top universities, maybe the MOST generous of schools in USNWR top 25.

I caution you to keep your heads level. There will be tippy top candidates that may not get an invite for the serious money. Just like admissions to Ivies, there is an element of many more qualified than there are spots. But please do not imagine that USC is deferring you. On the contrary. They give all admissions decisions by April 1. Those lucky 1000 finalists (about the top 4% of those Dec 1 applicants to USC–the strongest pool of applicants, obviously, since many are good matches for top scholarships) presented something in their application that spoke to the SCHOOLS at USC to whom they were applying regarding leadership, ECs, passion… who knows what! Each School has a very small number of invitations to give out–so a really competitive major (BioEng for example) could have a terribly high stat crowd vying for very few invitations, while a talent-based school like Thornton may look very closely at honors, national & international awards, and submitted CD & talent evaluation. And it goes without saying–but I’ll repeat it just the same–an invitation to the interviews is just step 1. Perhaps as many as 50% will receive the scholarship they interview for, some very few may be bumped up to a higher award while some other wonderful top top candidates will be bumped down. And as with every highly competitive pursuit, you have to have the proper understanding that none of this is a slam dunk–and free tuition $$ is always a huge prize.

Best of luck to our crop of CC applicants. Typically, we have a huge number of invitees posting here.

So guys,
If we applied by the december 1st deadline were either gonna get an acceptance letter along with scholarship info or a letter saying that our final decision is postponed?
Ahhh im soooo scared!

Scholarship invitations will be mailed out the very last week of January or the first of February. The letter of admission is enclosed in a packet. In that packet is a formal letter, a certificate of admission and information regarding housing, student life, etc.

There are different requirements for certain schools. Some require an audition. Others require a portfolio. SC chooses students in a holistic way. Every application is read and considered…every word.

We are unable to write when the notification will reach YOU. Those fortunate students who receive packets in the Los Angeles zip codes have heard first in the past. As soon as we hear a packet has been received the good news is posted here.

I have suggested many times please take time now to apply for local scholarships. Some of these have rather narrow qualifications. The pool of applicants may not be that large. Do a search on the internet. It is surprising how many scholarships are not awarded because students did not apply.

Continuing students at SC who have a fine academic and extracurricular record may apply for undergraduate continuing student scholarships. These are mainly given through individual schools such as Viterbi, Dornsife, Annenberg and Marshall.

A list of these is posted in another thread here. SC enrolled students can consult with individual academic counselors in their particular schools about application forms and deadlines.
