Does anyone have any info on whether Bowdoin will go to their wait list? Has anyone who is on it been contacted at all?

I don't have any specific info but the Bowdoin admissions director has stated that he expects to go to the wait list this year. Bowdoin accepted 65 fewer applicants than it did last year so unless the yield rate has increased, it should go to the wait list to fill out the incoming class. I suspect it will take a couple of days to process the commitments to Bowdoin from the applicants who sent in their deposits at the last minute so the contacts with those on the wait list probably won't begin right away . . .

Torasee, I take it that you haven't seen or heard anything about this the yield numbers for this year.

Correct - I doubt that the precise yield numbers are known yet. I see on the Amherst board that, as of today, the confirmation letters are still arriving at Amherst (apparently Amherst has a website where you can see exactly how many accepted applicants have confirmed - Amherst was at something like 408 earlier today with a target number of 440 for incoming first years). The same is probably true for Bowdoin although I would expected that virtually all confirmations would have arrived by tomorrow. .

If you look at the facebook pages today for Bowdoin and Amherst class of 2011 the numbers are similar. The Amherst Class of 2011 facebook page has 303 members while the Bowdoin facebook page has 313. This seems consistent since Amherst is aiming for a freshman class of 440 and Bowdoin is aiming for 474. Any thoughts on this?

Amherst class of 2011 facebook has 445 members.

(The real facebook, not the facebook.com group.)

Unregistered, did you personally see the 445 number on the real facebook page?

Yes, I did. But it was at 456 today.

(I am an Amherst student, so I can log in and see how many students have accepted their spot.)

Has anyone been contacted by Bowdoin about getting off the wait list? Has anyone been contacted by Bowdoin at all? Does anyone have any info on whether they will be using it this year?

According to the Williams Record, Bowdoin's yield is currently at 42.5%.

if bowdoin's yield is 42.5%, then they're already over their target class size...i think... :(

Nope. A yield of 42.5 means that around 470 students have chosen to enroll. The target class size is 475. Once you factor in summer melt, they'll almost certainly need to go to the wait list.

well that's certainly good news for some of the students on this thread. although i'm unaware of how much melt typically occurs. maybe more than usual since the acceptance rate was lower.

Summer melt at schools of this caliber is generally 7-8%, so they may lose around 35 students over the summer.

I think that those summer melt number percentages of 7-8% are Middlebury's numbers. They may have more to do with Middlebury's idiosyncratic practice of assigning some incoming first years to February slots. There may be more attrition in that group than is normal as February admits may decide not to wait until February when another offer comes along. I don't think that Bowdoin's melt numbers are anything like 7-8% as last year Bowdoin knew in May that it would basically not be going to its wait list.

Anyone accepted from the waitlist yet? Good luck!

I heard that they might accept as many as 30 people off the waitlist.

No word yet?

Some people have already been taken off the waitlist...but don't give up hope yet..

some were notified last week and some the week before - it seems to be some kind of a rolling schedule . .
