Waitlisted Unite!!

FountainRunner, do you mean write the "one-page statement" letter to a department head or write a second letter to a department head?

Does Need Blind Admissions still apply for waitlisted students (steering the conversation back towards undergrad admissions) at Columbia? Also, does Columbia have regional admissions directors? If so, how do we get in contact with them? I couldnt find any information on their website.

Thanks

I'd imagine so that it is still need-blind. I don't see why they would change all of the sudden now, although I'm sure the int'l waitlists are pretty much screwed if they need money. They most likely have regional directors, because it just makes everything so much faster and easier and more efficient. No clue who they are though.

Me too, mekrob...me too...sigh

So where've you guys matriculated in the meantime? I'm headed for NYU.

Did anyone send an extra personal statement or rec or maybe even both ?

they said not to send another rec. but i did send in an extra essay or whatever stressing how much I want to go. I'm doing my best not to get attached to carolina, even though they are throwing free computers and a great education at me, in case if i get accepted at columbia.

bing: It's just a one page letter to the Director of the program that I've been waitlisted to, stressing how much I want to be admitted. Why?

I called and asked admissions if I could send a rec and the said u could but it wasnt garunteedthat they were going to read it. It al depends on the reader. So i sent a oe page singled space statement and a rec

single spaced? I double spaced mine. Its always been standard (at least at my school) to double space because it's easier on the readers' eyes. It's just hard to read something single spaced. Let's hope your reader isn't old or has vision trouble. they might not even read it then.

Don't scare'em mekrob...single space is fine...its more professional than double spaced anyway

what e-mail did you send the supplementary statement to?

do you guys think it's too late to send a short story for consideration?

In the past, have waitlist notifications been received around the 15th (May) or is it usually towards the end of the period of time they mentioned in the letter? I'm hoping its this month, because I hate having to tell people I'm most probably going to the school I replied to...

2nd half of May -- they don't get all their info in until 5/15 if i recall correctly (check last year's CC boards!) so they wont check the waitlist until around then (if they even need it!).

What do you mean by "they don't get all their info in until 5/15?"

What other info do they need?

what i remember reading is...if they don't receive a reply from a student by 5/15, they call to check. Thus, they won't be done making those rounds of phone calls and finalizing their enrolled list until a few days later.

looking at last year's boards, i see that they revealed that they needed to admit about 30 waitlistees on 5/20, and the first CC person to hear heard last week of May.

I believe there are two rounds of waitlist acceptances. Not everyone who are admitted from the first round will decide to go; hence they will hold another round to fill in the remaining spots. The first round will probably begin in late May, and I wouldn't surprised if the entire process lasts until late June.

Don't most colleges automatically assume that the student isn't going if he or she does not submit the reply form by 5/1?

they just wanna make sure that people who might have had their replies lost in the mail or something aren't left with no places to go
