Any new updates?

AB, I’m still hoping you get in. But just remember, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with imitating Shakespeare. Ever.

I’m still hoping too (seriously), but with every passing day, a little bit of what’s left of my hope melts away, and a little part of me dies along with it.

Thanks for your encouragement butternut! Because I’m still hoping too…

Has the waitlist just died or something? I haven’t heard CC saying anything in quite a bit… Which is NOT a good thing (at least for me)

I sent an e-mail to my counselor for an update, think it would be better just to call. Anyone up for it? :P

Just called my admit counselor a few days ago. She said that they don’t have much room left to admit any more waitlistees for now. But they’re keeping the waitlist open just in case they do choose to admit more people, if people choose to go somewhere else (aka they get off a waitlist somewhere else).

Usually, admit counselors take a few days to reply to e-mails. They’re very busy people. I called, and my admit counselor picked up right away. Actually, it was quite the riveting experience, because I expected to talk to someone else before I talked to her.

i just got an email from the dean of admissions and i think the waitlist is now closed…=/

The e-mail just said that they’re keeping the waitlist open … if you want to stay on it until Jun 30. They said that they may admit a few more people if there is space.

there were 2 separate emails sent out.
some emails were sent out that cut some students from the waitlist == rejection letter

whereas other students got emails saying they will hear a definitive answer by june 30

ahhhh sooo nervewrecking : /

So for me it is:

Deferred EA –> Waitlist –> Waitlist 2

Better than nothing, as I have learned. :)

any new updates?

Hang in there, guys. I’m pulling for you. :)

hmm… does anyone know how successful the summer waiting list was for the class of 2012?

OK. This is a long story, so if you’re in a hurry like I am, go see the bolded text.

So HS ended for me a few weeks ago and last week I went to orientation at U of M. I chose all my classes, and my mind was set on, “Hey, you’re going to UMich. Get ready to change the world. You’re part of the leaders and the best.” But then there’s an entire summer to wait for college, right? So my parents asked me what I wanted to do for my summer (minus traveling the world, with the newly declared pandemic of a swine flu), so I said, I want to do some robotics (I’ve never done anything of the sort, so it’s something new for me). So they got me a robotics set, and I’m working on it and suddenly, THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO CALLS!!! My mom yells down to me in the basement where I’m working on my robot, and she’s like pick up the phone. I pick up the phone, and “they” – the University of Chicago Office of Admissions – tell me that my file has been taken down to the Dean of Admissions and it is currently under review, as several spots have opened up for this class. They then told me that I will recieve my final decision - by phone and by mail - in 10 days.

I’ve waited since October. It’s good to know that I’ll finally know if I’m in or not in 10 days. That’s June 25!

I’ll still probably end up at U of M though. But for now I have to go b/c I have hospital volunteering to do.

ab, I want you to know that, whatever it means, I send you my full support and hope. You seem to represent all the students still agonizing over the waitlist. I’m impressed by your patience and willingness to accept whatever happens–and I’m cheered by your devotion to the U of C. Chicago would be lucky to have you. Hopefully by June 25, we’ll all get to read on this page that it will have you–and as many others as it can hold from that waitlist.

I wish you luck!

To ab2013, my support is with you. You obviously seems like a very accomplished individual who is eager to help out the community, and who is extremely passionate about what you do. However, do not let that potential rejection (or acceptance) define who you are.

Remember, Andrew Fire only applied for Stanford and UC - Berkeley. He was rejected by Stanford. He graduated from UC - Berkeley with excellence, went on to MIT, and eventually became a co-winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and Physiology. Even the current provost of Stanford was rejected by Stanford during the undergraduate admissions process!

I wish you the best of luck!!

ab2013 - i have been rooting for you in silence, and it is awesome that they called to let you know.

aaaahhhhhh!

Rooting for you ab2013!

I, too, continue to root!

Looks like I started a trend! =) Just kidding. But I offer up another round of cheers here to everyone on the UChicago forum. You must be here for a reason. Let’s see that waitlist open wider!
