Watching sports in college

Best way to watch sports (ex. NFL, NBA, MLB games) in college: Invite people over to your dorm, watch them in the common room and hope others come in, or watch them somewhere else?

Whatever is in season, like your entering college in the fall so of course watch the NFL and NCAAF.

If I want to watch football games, then I want to watch in peace most of the time because I analyze what the players are doing (a habit I developed after years of playing football and watching film). I hate people interrupting me in the middle of a play and asking me what just happened (unless it’s a someone that is legitimately interested in the game). And God forbid that in the middle of a game that a guy I’m watching the game with decides that he’d rather play Madden instead. But if there’s a group of people that are actually interested in the game, then I’ll watch with them.

If you’re a sports junkie like me and want to keep up with your local hometown teams or out of market teams, try watching games on line. I reccommend channelsurfing.net and justin.tv (go to the sports section). This way, students going OOS are able to keep up with their hometown teams. Or say that you’re a Dallas Cowboys fan and want to watch the Cowboys but it’s not available in your area, you can watch them on those sites. Lot’s of NCAA, NFL, NHL games are on those sites. MLB and NBA, not so much, but you can find them elsewhere if you look hard enough.

thanks for the sites but what i do is me and my buddies just go out to local sports bars and watch games with other students and the locals. makes a much better atmosphere than sittin in a dorm room

SOC2015 as I was reading your post I was thinking hey this kid is a lot like me but then you started talking about the cowgirls and it went downhill

DC- I just used the cowgirls as an example. I’m actually a Chargers, 49ers and Texans fan and I hate all Dallas/Fort Worth/Arlington based sports teams except TCU.

Based off of your handle, I assume that you are a Redskins fan. And Go Caps!

Brown- sports bars are great as long as the game you are trying to watch has audio playing. I really enjoy the atmosphere they provide. It’s like being at the stadium, but without nose bleed seats.

@SOC

i wasnt referring to streams, i know about those and use them. i was referring to like if most people watch games in their room with a few others, in the lobby common room with lots of people, etc

and how can you be a chargers, 49ers, texans, and TCU fan? BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANDWAGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON

I invite people to my room to watch, go to watch parties, or go to bars. Whatever I feel like that day. I only watch hockey and football though, and I have season hockey tickets and usually football games are too long for me to make much of a social event out of them. I don’t always have enough free time to sit and watch an entire football game and not do anything else in that time. I have a couple friends that I go out with to watch our local NHL team play pretty regularly, too.

I grew up a Chargers and 49ers fan (I’m from Southern California). I was supporting the Bolts back when they had Drew Brees and Schottenheimer. I can tell you all you need to know about Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Charlie Joiner, and Air Coryell (may Coach Coryell RIP). And how can I be a bandwaggon 9ers fan? They have sucked since 2002. Joe Montana is my favorite player in the NFL. Bill Walsh is probably my favorite coach in NFL history (may he also RIP).

I like the Texans because I am a big Andre Johnson fan (he’s always on my fantasy team).

I didn’t say that I’m a TCU fan, I just said that I don’t hate them.

I’m the farthest thing from a band waggon fan. If I was, then I’d root for the Saints, USC, the Lakers, and the Red Wings. I HATE all of those teams (actually, I don’t care for the Saints).

Who are your teams?

A bandwagon fan that supports the red wings would have to be deluded.

<says a=“” red=“” wings=“” fan=“”></says>

i was just kidding about being a bandwagoner. but liking 3 teams is odd

49ers, A’s, Bulls (went to see relatives in Chicago in '96. Finals everywhere. I bandwagoned em cause i was 4)

Nobody watches sports where I go, and if they do, they’re all bandwagon Lakers fans and I like the Kings, so I’m stuck watching by myself.

</says>

EWWW I hate the Red Wings. No offense.

Ok thats cool then. Don’t you have other teams in the NFL that you root for week in and week out?

That’s why I never considered going to UCSD. I definitely don’t fit in with the types of students that they have there. I would go mad going to a school without a relevant sports program and students that don’t have any interest in sports.

Are you a LA Kings fan or Sacremento Kings fan? Because the LA Queens suck. Let’s Go Ducks! :)

^Well I can’t say NOBODY watches sports here, but it still is a disturbingly low number either way. And I meant the Sacramento Kings.

Hockey has too many games, I only watch the wings in the playoffs :p</says>

People were calling me a bandwagon because I was a Cav’s fan…but I grew up outside of Cleveland so it’s legit.

However, my father lives in Chicago and I go to alot of Bulls games, and did as a child when MJ was still playing, so I’m a fan of them too (which sucks, same conference).

While I’m not a “fan” of the Celtics, I really digged last years team. I met Ray Allen once and always kinda was into him since then, and I REALLY like Rondo. I just really liked how they played in last years playoffs, some real ball right there.

I’m an Indians fan for baseball, but with my father living in Chicago I tend to go to more Cubs games, but that’s cool - awesome atmosphere.

I don’t have a horse in the race for NFL, I don’t care about it. I played college football and loved football my whole life, I just never got into NFL. I suppose it’s the Browns, but they are so aweful it’s hard to really be a fan, especially when you don’t live in Cleveland - lol, I live in Pittsburgh.

Don’t follow hockey, but the Penguins have a good reputation here in PGH. The players do alot of the community and the team as a whole seem to really give back to the base.

For college sports its all about WVU.

There can never be enough hockey games. I probably watch 65/82 regular season Ducks games a year and all of the playoff games in adittion to watching interesting matchups on Monday-Thursday nights during the regular season and a lot of playoff games.

Eww I hate Crosby. The only player on the Pens that I like is Chris Kunitz. You should root for the Florida Panthers. They could use some fans.

Hockey does have a lot of games. I was never able to follow a football team even though I really enjoy the sport because the games are too long, which is part of why I prefer hockey. I just don’t have time to dedicate practically an entire day to a sporting event every week.

But the good thing about hockey is that unless you are particularly interested in a match up, there are enough games that you can miss tons of them and not really fall out of the loop.

its really only bandwagoning if your a fan of the team because they’re good. i was a lebron fan, and i still am kinda, but i like durant better now, but i wouldnt call myself i fan of either of their teams. im a pistons fan, but they havent been so good so i support the team that has players i like, but the pistons always come first. ive always been a notre dame fan first, but in basketball ill support michigan state after nd cuz im from there and my basketball team played one of their best players in high school.
back to the original topic though, if your trying to make more friends try and watch it with people. if i dont care much about the sport or the game itself then i prefer to watch in a group in my room or someone else’s room. i love college bball though so i enjoy watching it by myself

So far at Clemson, I’ve met

A Red Sox and Colts fan

A Phillies fan wearing a Tom Brady jersey

what a bizarre sports world we live in today! As for me Boston all the way! Thankfully, Boston sports teams are really good so I get to watch them on TV a lot even though I’m 17 hours away.
