The advice I got for girls was that Nike sports shorts were very popular among the girls. Also some kind of rainbow flipflops–or perhaps the brand name was close to ‘rainbow’. Not sure which. My daughter knew what they were at the time as her older sister had already bought her a pair, they are somewhat expensive apparently.

My daughter loved her American Eagle hoodie that I bought for her, and also she said in satisfaction that she now “looked like everyone else” after I bought her an American Eagle pea coat that I miraculously (I know that’s spelled incorrectly) got on sale after Christmas.

Rainbows are about 40 dollars. And yes, Rainbows is the brand. They are literally seen EVERYWHERE in SoCal. (They’re a great deal though, since they last a while).

You will notice what a lot of people wear because many wear the same thing. It is more evident with the girls who many for some inexplicable reason believe it is okay to wear just an over-sized shirt and leggings (no shorts). /rant for the day

Seriously though, unless you plan on rushing, no one really cares what anyone else is wearing so long as it isn’t outrageous. I wore t-shirts, jeans, and flip-flops to class everyday and no one ever said anything.

I did add that part about rushing because looking the part certainly helps your chances of fitting in with the other brothers.

Mom are you meeting up with the gang at the Capstone?

Also being from Ohio we had not seen alot of Croakies (sp?)…its truly not real sunny near Lake Erie. (beautiful today!)

But I do have a nice pair of sun glasses that I have ruined by putting them on the top of my head (they streatch ) so if you are investing in Raybans etc. use the croakies!!

Waving at y’all from Tuscaloosa! Had the pleasure of meeting a number of our crew last night for dinner & it was nice to keep running into everyone all day. I heard that M2CK was here, but didn’t get a chance to meet her :(

While I’ve seen a few girls in little sundresses, everyone else has had on shorts & tees or nice cotton shirts. It is a little warm here. And I finally saw the Nike Tempo shorts. Tried to get D a pair but everywhere we go they have XS or XL sized.

i wasn’t sure if he was looking for the A ones or the regular ones.

i saw the A ones on amazon too! not sure if my DD wants the A ones. i am imagining she will have a lot of crimson tshirts, and she wouldn’t want to wear crimson A shorts with those.

S would agree. He was gone for a week last year so I painted his room (from blue, which he never liked, always wanted a red room) to tan with a crimson accent wall and accessories. He liked it. At the time his college plans did not include Alabama. His final 3 choices all had a version of red. Did I subconciously direct his choice??? Whatever … he looks good in it.

Thanks for the tip on the Nike Tempo shorts. Ended up ordering a UA pair from Amazon for D. They arrived yesterday. She wore them last night. Apparently very comfortable Got a text that they have non-school versions in a “bazillion” different color combinations at Dick’s Sporting Goods and they were cheaper. She just bought herself another pair.

JUST got back from Bama Bound and I’m happy to report that I saw students wearing a multitude of styles. I DID see many tempo shorts, but also saw girls with no-name shorts, skirts, jeans, you name it. Lot’s of Polo’s on the guys and the bookstore must have had a sale because every other person wore Alabama gear, and I don’t think those were the orientation kids. Saw some interesting tattoos, as well…

This thread has been fun to read and a few of the things cracked me up. I have a rising Sr. so I surf a few of his target school sites. We are in Virginia and the local kids who go to UVa can take some ribbing for their ‘preppy’ attire which is distinctly different than VT. It doesn’t sound much different than what the 'bama kids are wearing. Certainly more formal than S2’s high school and he’s one of the better dressed kids.
Great thread idea for incoming students of ‘what to expect’.
