What's next for Scholars semifinalists?

For those of you who have received word from Emory: have you all received letters or is this information online for you?

^ I got a letter in the mail; nothing on OPUS, no email, nothing else yet.

Me too. I got a letter in the mail and nothing on OPUS.

it's not on OPUS yet. given up for tonight. will check 6:30 tomorrow morning. you see, this is how unhealthy my obsession is.

As my consolation prize, I was admitted to Florida State (But I'm still more concerned about Emory)!!!

Ah well I'll be checking around 7 tomorrow morning, and if decisions aren't up by lunch...then I'll be very frustrated!

I don't really understand why Emory staggers everything like this. Why not simply dump the 350 letters into a mailbox and click "send" a few times to email everybody their decision all at once? It seems like it just creates a bunch of stress for those who live farther away or are mailed at a later date.

Personally, I got the letter when I wasn't even expecting it, so I'm good, but logistically emails before snailmail seems the best way to go.

Nothing yet...will check again at 9...

nothing. it's 7:32 emory time
i was among the first batch to get semi letters. now I know how it felt for you people who got late semi letters. when were the very last semi letters sent out?

do people who don't advance get notified? I don't htink people who didn't get semi got notified, so I'm guessing no.

snow day for me, so I'll be checking all day now lol

Finalist!!!! just got the email and I can't believe it. My stats are not anything amazing. omg still cant believe it!!!

i got a liberal arts scholarship... very bummed right now

Same here ... I was hoping for more.

I got a LAS...but on the contrary, I'm quite happy...you're getting 12k per year to attend Emory....that's a lot more than most people are getting!

LAS here too....$14000 though. how much is everyone getting?

Looking at everybody's stats and how much they got surprises me a bit. There are lots and lots of people with quite better test scores, GPA, and ECs than some of the people who got finalist.

I think I wrote a decent essay, but I seriously have only done 2 clubs throughout HS, virtually no volunteer experience, don't have a 4.0, etc. I'm going with the theory of them drawing names out of a hat.

Congrats to all that got finalist! Something to consider is that a lot of the big awards (tuition or tuition/room and board) have stipulations attached. Looking at the website, a lot of them give preference to residents of Georgia or the Southeast. I don't think the LAS or John Emory awards have such stipulations.

I'm grateful for the 12K LAS offer, but I don't think it's enough to sway me significantly. Emory is still an option, but I guess i'll just wait and see what happens in March.

Regardless, Congrats to all of you who got finalist!

IMHO, it is normal to want to compare stats of the Finalists compared to those that received LAS or John Emory Scholarships. All of the Semi Finalists have so much to be thankful for. Each and every one of you have worked so hard to get to this level of the competition. As a parent of one in college and one entering college in the fall, I have seen many bright students second guess the scholarship selection committees. You must realize that there are MANY bright students applying for the same scholarships.

I hope you will continue to work hard and not lose sight of the bigger prize. You all have an opportunity to get an education from some college, it just may not be the one you thought you would attend.

You may not realize it now but you have a lot of people very proud of you reguardless of the value of your scholarship packages.

how do you know how much you got? it doesn't say in the email, and I still haven't received anything on paper yet.

I got the $10,000 LAS. To be frank, I'm very disappointed. I honestly had myself in at least the 2/3 range, but I guess I overestimated myself, or something happened to my application that I didn't know about.
