I'm very surprised you were rejected Illusion. I'm sure you'll be successful wherever you end up.

Brooklyngirl,

My stats were not that special to be honest. In high school, I had a 4.0 with some AP and Honors courses. My SAT scores were very low, about average, but I did not need to submit them since ILR does not require them. I had a lot of EC's though, mainly in sports. As for college, I have a 3.9 GPA as of now for three semesters (currently a sophomore). I take 20 credits per semester, which is pretty high, but maybe they like that. I have a few EC's, such as being treasurer and vice president for two different clubs. I was very pessimistic about getting accepted, but I guess I was wrong :P. Your stats definitely qualify you for Cornell, it will probably come down to the essays, instructor evaluations, and interview. Cornell does not care just about grades, but how you are as an individual and how you fit into the program. I checked my self-service at around 12 PM today, and that was when I found out about the acceptance, meaning that they posted it in the morning. Since we are heading to the weekend, admissions might be closed, or not. I would definitely look every hour though. Good luck!

mhawkjr where do you go to school? Thanks for the vote of support!!!

I currently attend SUNY Institute of Technology in Utica, NY. It is pretty small in size, but it sure did the job! :)

I applied for CAS, but got rejected..Do you think we can appeal?

Jasmine, when did you complete your application?
I don't think you can appeal as decisions are final, but you can ask for a reason why you were rejected.

Transfer student

Do you think we can ask for the reason why we are rejected? Do you think they will tell you?

Yes I do, when i applied to human eco has a HS senior, they told me that my essays weren't as strong as they hoped...although it may be different for other schools

Stargazer:

lol..thanks.

Jasmine:

I think the best thing you can do is see what they say is wrong with your application. That way, you can apply for fall, come march.

So does anyone know if decisions are given out in order of earliest applicants?

Uhh...wow. Decisions already?

Congrats, you guys and gals who made it in. That's awesome news! :)

I myself have applied to CAS, for Mathematics, but I haven't gotten a decision yet. Perhaps Monday or Tuesday.

I'm thinking the order of the date at which the completed app + supplementary materials was sent is the same order decisions are released. I had some problems with getting my HS transcript in, so I had to have it faxed about...2, 3 weeks ago? So I'll be the last to hear from them, probably.

Ahh, well...

So I called again today and this time HumEc told me that decisions will be released on a rolling basis, so as they read an application they will make a decision and post it.

Accepted! CAS Chemistry

That's fantastic! Congratulations!

transferstudent9,
Congrats!!! Did you hear today, Sat? How?online, mail?

I woke up a half hour ago and went straight to the online self-service. There I found a check your decision link.

What do you think did it for you? Grades, recs, essay, both?

mhawkjr:

Did the packet you recieved have any financial aid estimate? What did it include?

Violaghost :
I do think grades are a big factor, but in this thread I did see many 4.0 gpa applicants denied, so I don't think its the only factor. My essays were considered to be strong from opinions of my peers, so I think that both GPA and Essays were deciding factors.

I don't believe my rec to be particularly strong as I only talked to my professor once. The best he could have said was that I was a good student. I do believe that recs can make or break in an applicant if one's essays and gpa are not strong enough.

In summary, grades and essays, but I feel that essays were the biggest factors.

zakaqel:

I received a packet that includes the acceptance letter, a decision coupon requiring a $400 tuition deposit, and information on dining, financing, and housing, but not a financial aid estimate, which kind of had me worried until you mentioned having the same problem. We will just find out later. I definitely need the financial aid :P. They will probably give us a call or email, otherwise I am calling them on Monday to find out. If I did not mention this before, congrats! :)

Oh, by the way, do you know when we need to turn in the deposit and decision? Is it due January 9th or a week after receiving the notification of acceptance? The wording on the coupon kind of threw me off, but I bet it is due January 9th. One week is not enough time to finalize everything.
