oh thats really weird. You’re right, it would probably be on her website. I checked that too- it was kind of funny, on her interests page or what not- it was like "Emma has many interests other than acting including skiing (etc, etc) … and she throws herself into anything she wants with state of aplomb."It looked like a resume page. :P

Here’s to clearing up any more confusion…Emma Watson is coming to Brown! Please, no more comments on “how is it remotely possible she would choose Brown over Yale”–just personal preference I suppose. Anyhow, her name is finally in the Brown directory! If you don’t believe me, google “brown directory”, click on the first link and then type her name in the search button. It’ll come up–it wasn’t there a few days ago so she’ll probably make it public soon. (I really hope to see her around campus next year!)

im glad she picked brown, and i hope she enjoys it. seriously, how awkward would it be having her in our classes? LOL

nice find ambitiousmind. congrats to her.

My hypothesis is that she didn’t apply to Yale because of the course requirements for sciences and math. Since she hasn’t taken math and science courses since 10th grade (she took GCSEs, which have very basic level math), she’d be a bit behind on that, and taking college level courses in them would be difficult.

By the way, this is the most pretentious thread I’ve ever read. Keep 'em coming!

“The Government” posted this several times here and on other threads:

I should stay out of this, but this is untrue and unfair, and needs to be corrected. “The Government” purports to be connected to Yale admissions, but were that the case, he/she would know that this rumour is false, and he or she should be ashamed. Interesting that “The Government” admonishes readers to not believe what they find on the Internet – his posts are a good example of that!

Setting the record straight:
Emma Watson visited Yale – confirmed.
Emma Watson stayed on campus – confirmed.
One or more Yale Tour Guides asked Miss Watson for her autograph – FALSE.

Ask yourself – does this make any sense at all? Emma Watson is not the only famous person to visit Yale and other universities on any given day. Famous young people, or children of famous people (walking around with their parents), are touring campuses all the time. Tour Guides are very discreet, professional and thoroughly trained. There are Special Tours – which are provided to avoid the kind of scenario in which people that could be recognized will be hassled. The Tour Guides that give the Special Tours see people who are as well-known (or more so) than Emma Watson all the time. In fact, who knows, the Tour Guide could be famous for something too. One remarkable thing about Yale, and a few other U.s, is that the relaxed, unassuming, unpretentious (even scruffy sometimes) students you meet might –
be Intel winners
have published novels
hold patents
star in professional theater
have Olympic medals
etc.
but you wouldn’t know it, because they are all at college to get an education, not to show off.

University Tour Guides work hard, and not just at walking backwards! They want visitors to have good experiences on their campus. Not just Emma Watson, but all visitors. Why does any prospective student choose one college over another? These things are sometimes intangible. I would not try to speculate about that, regarding Miss Watson or anyone else.

AnudduhMom, did you hear directly from someone in Yale admissions that one of the guides asked her for her autograph?

k.

Huh? I just said it didn’t happen. What you said did not happen. I don’t know if someone told you a falsehood (but why), or you are trying to propagate some untrue story for your own reasons.

Just stop this. Provided you are even actually related to someone in Yale Admissions, he or she would be ashamed of you, and shocked that you are trying to do this.

How do you know definitively that it didn’t happen?

A cursory look at your post history reveals that you are a free-ranging antagonist (i.e. ■■■■■), “The Government”. Your attempts at posing as some sort of authority on subjects that you could not actually know is quite sad.

I don’t have any problem with that, you can say what you want, except when you attempt to besmirch the reputation of some dedicated and hard-working students, a category which may not include you.

To anyone still following this tired thread – a note of caution:

Don’t believe what “The Government” tells you.

(that was fun to write, but makes me wonder if you chose that username to post baseless nonsense just so someone would eventually write ‘“The Government” is lying to you.’)

^I’m not taking sides (I’d rather stay out of this), but your last comment made me laugh.

I just searched her in the Brown directory and it didn’t come up —

lol.
You failed to answer my question.

Anyways, I’m really not a ■■■■■, much as you would like to believe (for some reason) that I am…

And ‘baseless nonsense’? What platform do you stand on that makes your opinion so much more credible than my own?

I’m curious… do you work in admissions or do you know someone who works in admissions?

EDIT: I’m also curious as to what, exactly - based on my post history alone - makes you think that I’m a ■■■■■?

Guylian2009-- When I checked the directory on Saturday (someone from the Brown Facebook group pointed this out and I saw it as well), her name was there as plain as day. Only her name and “Undergraduate Student” was listed; most students have their name, type of student, and e-mail address listed. My guess is that they took it down either because she hasn’t made any official statements yet or she just doesn’t want to be listed in the directory. I’m really not sure, but her name was there! (And previous posters apparently saw it as well!) It’s understandable why her name would be taken off though.

Also-- For some reason the thread started in the Brown forum about her was taken down the same day people started seeing her name listed in the directory. I’m not sure what that was about though.

I just learned that she was taken off the directory (the EXACT same day someone reported finding her) because of Facebook. Admission officers apparently monitor the Facebook group and so when everyone got excited and started searching for her, they took her down. That also explains why the thread in the Brown forum was removed.

In defense of The Government, another poster has already said that s/he was told by an admission officer that Watson did not apply to Yale. I can add that I have heard the same from yet another admitted student regarding information passed on from an admissions officer. So it would seem that regarding her level of interest in Yale he was correct. He appears to have speculated about her true destination, but then final confirmation (from the actress herself) has yet to be seen. In spite of her apparent admission to Brown, she might still choose otherwise by summer’s end.

Yeah, I got the news that she never applied to Yale from an admissions officer too…

But when I said (months ago) that she was going to Cambridge, that wasn’t set in stone… I was told by this same admissions officer that she thought Emma was probably going to Cambridge - but she wasn’t at all certain… she was just speculating herself. (But I sure sounded certain when I said she was going to Cambridge, didn’t I? lol.)

But now it seems like Emma might be going to Brown. We’ll have to just wait and see.

I guess the useful thing to be derived from this thread might be –

If you are a prospective student or an incoming freshman, it is considered bad form to mob well-known people on campus. Crowding around, taking pictures, asking for autographs, stalking on Facebook (or God forbid in person) or in any other way acting like an out-of-control fan is just not good.

On a college campus, there is no more important person than YOU. Prospective students, and incoming students are very important to everyone on campus, in Admissions including the Tour Guides, your profs, and your parents. The crucial thing for you to do is to concentrate on getting what you need in terms of your education, that’s why you’re there.

Funny story:
A couple of years ago we were at an Admissions information session at Williams. There were around 50 people jammed into the reception area. The wonderful Admissions Officer asked if anyone had questions or comments, and one prospective student raised her hand and hyperventilated:
“I just saw Emmy Rossum walking around outside, and now I am so excited to apply to Williams!!!”
Lots of people in the room stared at her with their mouths open (including on the Admissions panel, as polite as they were) and I have to admit, we had to bite our lips to keep from laughing.
…fun stuff from our “college tour” days, like in that same session, the football player who had his feet up on the antique table the entire time, and the girl who put her Slurpee cup down on the table and left a ring…

So anyway, to reiterate, the Tour Guides at Yale would not ask anyone for his/her autograph, but they can’t control what visitors walking around campus might do…
…and here’s hoping none of you are playing ‘stalk the stars’ instead of focussing on your own college experience.

I am pretty positive she is going to Brown. I saw her name in the directory myself.
