I am applying to Pratt (Duke) ED, but there is an issue; I have gotten 2 B's and a B+ throughout high school. These B's were in math/science courses. I have taken an extremely rigorous courseload at my school. For some context, I go to an extremely competitive school (top 5 in the nation, used to be number 1 for a while), and UW GPA is roughly 3.82. SAT Scores: 800 R, 760 M (1 wrong), 760 W (2320 total). 800 on math II, 750 on Bio. I don't want to get too detailed about them for privacy's sake, but my ECs are really strong, unique, and show my interest in engineering/math/science. If it matters, I have gotten a couple math awards (AIME qualifier, AMC 12B score top 4 in state on achievement roll), and have done work at major universities for two summers, developing software now used in multiple national institutions. Thank you in advance for your replies! I really appreciate it!

Overall, I feel that every aspect of my application (including essays and recs) is pretty strong except for my GPA, though I may just be paranoid.

Overall for Duke, you are a great applicant. Your stats are very good, but I am not sure about how hard it is to get into Dukes engineering program.

Thanks so much guys, I truly appreciate your replies! For additional information, the admit rate ED from my school is 54%, and the average accepted applicant GPA is about 0.04 points above mine.

I would say the school is a match for you. Your school seems to have a really good relationship with the college and you are a very impressive applicant. Its important to remember that everyone applying to these schools has great grades, so what really matters is your EC’s which are great. Don’t freak out, the B’s won’t be a huge deal at all.

60% chance…and depending on your recs, essays, extracurrics, awards, leadership…the range is probably 50-75%. Great high school work; I’m impressed, and good luck! :)

Just checked, apparently admit rate from my school to duke early is 56%.

I wish I could speak more on my ECs, but this would give away who I am/my school/etc. Let’s just say that I was on a team that did something very significant (engineering related) that has never been done before by high-schoolers. This is in addition to another rather strong (not as strong, however) EC that show my commitment to engineering and ties together with a part of my personality I reflected in my essays. My other ECs are also decently strong, and there are about 4 or so I haven’t spoken about on this thread, but I am pretty involved in them and they show I have an artistic side also, which I figured would help me distinguish myself (asian male…lol) for pratt, such as me being president of guitar club and having played flamenco guitar for six years. I hope this gives more of a background, thanks!

Also, other awards in addition to AIME and AMC 12B top 4 in state are smaller ones, such as national french exam gold medalist, national merit semifinalist, AP scholar with distinction, model un best delegate stuff, etc…

More info on my programming work: I co-programmed the UVA medical center’s online scribe system freshmen year. My other programming work (under UChicago) was a slightly similar software I co-programmed which is now in use at many national universities, from UPenn and Uchicago to UNM.
