William & Mary Fall 2011 Transfer Thread

umw2011- There is a Guaranteed Admissions Agreement (GAA) between W&M and Virginia Community Colleges. Students must sign an agreement and submit it to W&M at least a year in advance to qualify. Additionally, students must maintain at least a 3.6 gpa, complete a transferable associate degee from a Virginia Community College, and complete and earn a grade of “B” or better in certain courses that satisfy general education requirements at W&M. There are additional requirements that can be found here: [William & Mary -*VCCS Guaranteed Admission Agreement](http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applytransferstudent/vccs_students/guaranteed_admission/vccsagreement/index.php)

I am applying to W&M through the GAA. It’s extensive and exceeds the requirements of my associate degree, but it definitely alleviates the application anxiety.

Thanks! I hope that we all get in.

Thanks for all the info, ceh2992. I suppose you have less stress about admissions than some of us, but I know this whole thing isn’t easy for anyone, so best wishes with everything!

Thanks and good luck to you too! I meant to say that I applied for the fall 2011 semester, so I’m eagerly awaiting the release of the admission decisions. I’m just hoping that this week goes by quickly!

Do we have an exact date yet as to when decisions will be released?

umw, it’s hard to say whether those who don’t get admitted should try again for the spring or fall. It would depend on why you weren’t admitted. That’s why we recommend those not admitted contact our transfer dean. She can tell you, after reviewing your file, if and when she thinks you will be more competitive for admission. On the whole, students are no more likely to get admitted in the fall than the spring semester.

We do have two types of guaranteed admission agreements with VA Community Colleges and Richard Bland. These agreements specifiy specific courses and GPA and credit requirements that students must meet in order to be guaranteed admission at the completion of their AA/AS. Just like we consider all IS students together and all OOS students together in freshman review, we consider all students from two-year schools together and all those from four-year schools together during transfer review.

McBain, your original application materials are part of your re-open application so all of that material as well as your new materials will be considered.

We do not yet have an exact date for decisions to be released by likely late next week.

Well I have no chance of being admitted since my essay from last year sucked. Maybe admissions will take into consideration my improvement as a writer. I’m trying to expect to get rejected so when i do, it’s not that big of a blow

McBain- I highly doubt that William and Mary will hold a bad essay from your HS application against you. In fact, I could actually see it work in your favor if, assuming that you wrote a good essay this year. They could think, “oh wow, he’s really improved as a writer over the past year”. He’s a stronger writer and maybe we should admit him. Again this is just a guss, but honestly I do not think that it will impact you negatively. Keep your head up

McBainTrain:

I’ve got to echo surfwakesnow165’s sentiment here. You’ve got to remember that the people looking over your applications are people who’ve chosen a career specifically to help people. They’re looking for reasons why you should be at W&M, not for reasons why you shouldn’t. The change from high school is a lot more than just a year’s worth of time, and I’d be willing to bet that they not only recognize that, but embrace it.

O.P

aww thanks for the nice comments guys :)

McBain, one aspect of your application alone can never make or break an application. Our process doesn’t work that way. Certainly any part of an application can be a tip factor but we won’t look at your essay and automatically decide one way or the other without reviewing all of the additional information provided.

9 more days at most, I think. Im so nervous. This is my dream school, and I really hope I get in. Good Luck to everyone!

Good luck to you too, YellowMari! Just think, next weekend we will all know! And whether or not I get in, I’m just excited to finally know so I can figure out what’s happening next year. Although of course I’m hoping with every fiber of my being to get in!

Good luck everyone. Next week our Admit It! Blog will re-up it’s Overheard in Committee blog for a transfer edition.

go tribe!!!

Will we receive financial aid information along with our decision (assuming it’s an acceptance)? I am just worried because the other school I applied to transfer to (my fall back, w&m is still my top choice!) needs me to give them an intent to attend by May 1st, and I want to be able to make the most informed decision possible!

I was told by the FA office that the aid package will come soon after acceptances, possible a week later.

i can’t wait to find out decisions this week!!! so exciting. even if i’m rejected, i’ll be glad this process is over because i am seriously exhausted!

i hope decisions come out during the school week, like wednesday or thursday, versus saturday. classes and studying will help keep me occupied during the day!

Thanks for the info, godricgryffindor!

We’re on the last leg of the journey, guys! Best of luck to everyone!

AHHH so nervous…
is there a definite day yet for the release of decisions?
