So, I know I’m a little early, but I went ahead and filled out my application and submitted it. I’ve been out of high school for a while and just started college last spring. I am a sophomore at a junior college and my fall semester looked like this.

Calculus and its applications-A
Business Statistics I-A
Principles of Accounting II-A
American Lit. I-A
Sociology-A
Western Civ.-A

I have a 4.0. Next semester looks similar. I will be taking Biology I, Bus. Stats. II, Amer. Lit.-II, Micro. Comp. App., Speech, and Art Appreciation. I also took the LSAT on December 1st and am awaiting the results. Would it be beneficial to inform the admissions team of my LSAT score? I kind of think it helps since I spent probably 10 hours a week studying for it. If it would help, how could I slip that info in?

Thanks,

Since I have been out of high school 10+ years, do I still have to get high school transcripts/grades?

@jnolen2, every applicant has to submit a high school transcript, no matter what. That being said it won’t play as a large a role for those who have been out of high school for long periods of time.

Why are you taking the LSAT since you won’t be applying to law school for another few years? The LSAT plays no role in your admission to an undergraduate program.

I wanted to get it out of the way so I could start focusing on the GRE. It stays good for five years. The goal is dual enrollment in Law School/Economics PHD program after college. Economics PHD programs focus on quantitative reasoning stuff, which is where I need the most work. My mind always needs a task, and as you can see, six classes wasn’t quite enough. I realize how cocky that sounds, but its the truth. The only way I can stay out of trouble is if I have goals that are somewhat difficult to reach.

Also, after this spring semester all I will have to take is 2 more classes in the summer, which is what I will do if I get in to William and Mary, and I will have my Associates. If I don’t get into William and Mary I will go ahead and transfer to Auburn for the summer semester and hopefully continue at the rate Im going (6-6-3) and graduate early. Also, would you guys consider membership in American Mensa an Academic honor? Probably not huh. I didn’t put it on my application anywhere because I didn’t think it would be in good taste. Thanks so much for answering!

Well there is no need to share your LSAT studies with us since they don’t play a role in undergraduate studies. You are welcome to list whatever honors you feel appropriate.

Hi, I’m a prospective sophomore fall 2013 transfer from Baruch College in NYC.
I just completed my first semester and have a gpa of a 3.34 from
the following courses:
English 2100, Anthropology 1001, Intro to Music, Communications 1001,
and American Gov’t 1101. I have also take pre-calculus and calculus last summer from
a local NY state school.

I am on the college’s varsity soccer team and am part of their Economics Society.
I also hold down an internship and volunteer at my local church.
Can anyone give me an idea of my chances at admission and what I need to improve or focus more on in my application?
Thanks

Hello. I am currently attending NOVA, and I would like to apply for William and Mary as a transfer student. I am planning to finish Social Science degree and major in Public Policy at W&M. Does the school allow a transfer student to declare major in public policy? Also, I would like to know how competitive the transfer admission is like for students from community colleges with associate degrees.

Thank you! : )

@kafkaisalone, yes, transfer students are absolutely allowed to major in public policy and if you transfer in as a junior (which you should by virtue of having an associates degree) you can declare that major during your first semester at W&M.

Generally speaking, students who have earned an AA or AS from a VCCS institution and who have a 3.5 GPA or higher fare well in our transfer process. Overall, we admit between 40-45% of all transfer applicants.

Thank you for your reply! That was very helpful. Now I have more questions about the admission.

1) About a Letter of Intent - do I have to mail it a year ahead of the time I wish to register? If I do not do so, would I not be able to apply?

2) About SAT/ACT score - currently I have a GPA of 3.5~3.8 range at a Virginia community college (I would prefer not to reveal my actual GPA). However, my SAT score, which I had in high school, is quite low. If I transfer as a junior with an A.S., do I have to submit an SAT score?

Thank you! : D

A letter of intent is only necessary if you intend to apply under the guaranteed admission agreement. If you are in your last semester at NVCC, it’s too late to submit the letter of intent as it’s due a year before you intend to enroll. You’re still welcome to apply through the general admission process however.

An ACT/SAT is not required if you’ve completed two full-time semesters before applying.

How are out of state transfers viewed?

I received approximately 64 quarter units at a California community college while in high school and 12 units from AP scores (Stats and AP English). I am in my first year at a UC but with the 14 units I completed my first quarter and the 23 in-progress now, I am classed as a junior. I would like to transfer primarily because the school wants me to graduate next year and I foresaw my college education as lasting a bit longer than that. I completed nearly all of my GEs (biological anthropology and astronomy for the sciences, writing, French, macro- and microeconomics, history, and various others). At college right now I am taking what I need to complete my Classics major – Greek and Latin, history courses, writing courses, and so on. Does W&M want to see science and math courses from my four-year institution or are 2-year credits accepted?

I currently have a 3.9 unweighted (received an A- last quarter) and have a respectable amount of volunteer work and internships given my time in school. Tldr; what can I do to make myself a more competitive candidate? Thank you!

Just like with our freshman applications, we keep a close eye on in-state and out-of-state applications. All in-state transfers are looked at together, all out-of-state applicants are looked at together. We do favor in-state applicants as a public university but we of course admit in-state applicants also.

We will accept any admissable transfer credits regarless of whether they come from a two-year or four-year school. Keep in mind that you must earn 60 credits from W&M in order to receive a degree and you must get at least 18 or 21 credits in your major to earn the major degree.
