Words from W&M Admission: News and Updates for the 2012-2013 academic year

I am actually honored I got waitlisted. I presume the last thing the committee wants to do is read more materials, but how would the committee feel about an additional letter of recomendation?

@termah420, we’re so sorry that news couldn’t be better. We have no doubt that you have other great offers and we wish you all the best.

@collegeboundJon and @Rubbish, additional “application materials” aren’t necessary. What we do recommend is that if come mid-to-late April, once you’ve considered all of your options, if W&M remains your top choice, email your regional dean and let them know of your continued interest.

@collegeboundJon, review the waitlist FAQ link in your decision email. That provides a lot of information about our waitlist process. Basically, it’s not about luck but about where our class fell short (for example, did we not reach 35% out-of-state students). Once we know that we review all the applicants in that cohort and select the most competitive for admission.

I was admitted!!! it was a great shock after being waitlisted at GW and rejected by UWash but it doesnt matter!!! WM was my first choice!!! i cried for an hour!!!I cant thank you guys enough!!!

@beautifulchick95, good for you! We love tears of joy and glad we could be the cause of them!

I got in via a cutesy little email!

Thanks so much for this opportunity W&M!

@karatekid666, “Good Things” indeed right?

Did those who get admitted got a cute email about packages and ending with “Welcome to the Tribe”?

Gingersnaps - both UVa and W&M are required by the state to maintain a 2/3:1/3 instate: OOS ratio.

GREAT things! I will be coming down to Williamsburg with my parents tomorrow or Thursday!

@karatekid, great. We look forward to it. If however you can return to campus for an admitted student event, event better.

@gingersnaps, blueiguana is correct.

@FruitPunchNinja, yes, don’t second guess it. We wouldn’t send something titled “Good Things” to those who weren’t getting good news. See our blog for all the details!

I was admitted, with a likely letter and a formal letter of admission through the Monroe Scholar program, a couple of weeks ago. Should I still be expecting the Good Things email or do I miss out on that special congratulations?

@PlexusNexus, since we send Monroe Scholar decisions a few weeks early, they unfortunately do not receive the Good Things email (since you already have that coveted thick envelope). Those who got the email tonight won’t get their thick envelope for several more days. Not a perfect process we know but the outcome is the same.

Fruitpunchninja–I had to read it twice to make sure I understood it-lol! William and Mary has been the most creative and fun with their info. We especially loved the little pack of postcards they sent out last fall. Very neat!

@Admissions-well, DD found out she was admitted while on the Spanish Steps in Rome! Very, very happy!

@BeachMom21, glad you like the email, and glad your daughter received it. She should take a photo of herself reading it on the Spanish steps and submit it to our Tribe Photobomb set. That would be pretty awesome!

That’s so funny. We just left rome and arrives in milan, where my daughter received the acceptance email! Very excited! Congrats and good luck to all!

That is funny, indepenndent36–our D began her trip in Milan. Hope y’all are having a great time, too :).

@ W & M Admission, I think a picture was definitely taken :)

Is there a reason why decisions were emailed instead of posted on some sort of portal? It was very unexpected to open an email and have the decision right there with no warning.

hahaha when i saw the email I did not read the admit it blog first so I thought the email was another propaganda email advertising how great william and mary is and how much i want to go there. then i opened the email… i was a little confused because I thought an email telling me decisions will come out in a couple of days but then I saw the think…0_0, Can’t express my gratitude for being accepted!!

Exactly! It was so out of the blue!

I found out while at Dairy Queen, which is almost as exciting as finding out on the Spanish Steps! Congrats to everyone!
