Words from W&M Admission: News and Updates for the 2012-2013 academic year

haha, Optimoose!! We do love Dairy Queen  Congrats!

@carbs, we donā€™t have any portal type software that would allow for what youā€™re talking about. Plus we do give a heads up. The emails you receive confirming receipt and completion of your application note that our decisions will be sent by email. Finally we like to be able to send an actual letter (even if itā€™s in email form) rather than just having someone pull up a screen that says a decision.

Interestingā€¦still seems brusque, but Iā€™d suppose it is efficient! Thanks for the response.

Hi I have question for W&M Admission. On your web site the 25/75 ranges for the SAT and the ACT are 1250-1460 and 28-32 respectively. Are you able to provide the ranges for in-state students broken out separately? If so, what are they? Thanks very much and Go Tribe!

@WMadmission When is the last day to sign up for the admitted students day? my parents want to come along so they are trying to clear their schedule.

@beautifulchick, we hope that people can register by the Wednesday before (4/10).

@wmadmission. ok thank you i think we are going to try to sort that out today. Also i created my Wm account but I cannot access my account. is there a link or a website that I can go to?

@beautifulchick, what do you mean you cannot access your account? We assume you activated it using the steps outlined on the ā€œyour accountā€ portion of the welcome website? So what are you trying to access now?

hahaha yeah sorry i figured it out after I posted thisā€¦

Hi W&M Admission, I just realized that A Day for Admitted Students is on the same day as another one of my college visitsā€¦ Will there be any other days that this event or a similar one will be held??

Oh, sorry I spoke too early. I just read about myWM Mondays which should work perfectly!!

@karatekid, we definitely encourage all admitted students to attend Day for Admitted Students if at all possibleā€¦itā€™s an amazingly fun day on campus and is the most comprehensive program we have. myWM Mondays are a great alterate if one absolutely cannot make Day for Admitted Students but might be worth exploring if the other college youā€™re thinking of visiting that day is offering a program they replicate or not.

Hi W&M Admissions! Iā€™m an accepted student, and will be attending next year. And I have my first C ever. Itā€™s a C- in AP physics and Iā€™m really not proud of it. Iā€™ve been working hard, and my grade really isnā€™t a good representation of that. Our teacher left first semester, and for the 2nd semester we have a very bad new teacher unfortunately. Should I send a letter to the school about the drop in grade? I had an A first semester. The principal at my school has a letter we can send to our colleges explaining the situation because theyā€™re aware of how bad it has been for everyone, but I wasnā€™t sure if I should kinda own up to it on my own and write my own letter? Thanks!

@soccersara, we assume this is a quarter C-? If so, weā€™d advise waiting to see what your final grade is. If your final grade remains low, feel free to send your letter or that and whatever your principal has put together to your regional dean. We very much appreciate when students own up to a drop in grades on their own rather than waiting for us to find out and contacting them. If however your grade rises, no need to worry.

Yes, it is. Iā€™ll do everything I can to get it up. But, we really only have 2 more weeks (including this one) of new material and assessments, because after April break we review for the AP test. I hope I can get my grade up though. Iā€™ll do my best! Thanks so much! Hypothetically, if I were to need to send an email/letter explaining a drop, where would I send it?

hey WM or anyone I have a question? If I actively look for job would it be easy to find one in Williamsburg or are all the jobs primarily for WS. sorry I know this is a stupid question but I have to figure lessen the COA so I could have a chance to attend

Hey Beautiful- I spend a fair amount of time in Williamsburg and was told by the manager of a restaurant that I really like that he had a hard time getting employees. He complained that all the W&M kids were having everything paid for by their parents and so werenā€™t interested in working. Now maybe he is just difficult to work for but I think there are lots of jobs available- not career type things but spending money type things. I believe there is a limit on how many hours W&M wants you to work per week. Busch gardens amusement park is open spring weekends and fall weekends and if you want to work in the summer there, I have heard it is fairly easy to get a job that lets you do a few hours on weekends during school. I worked there when I was in school, but that was 30 years ago.

@soccersara, just email your regional dean.

@Beautifulchick, there are plenty of non-work study jobs on campus and of course, plenty of jobs off campus. Almost every academic and administrative department hires students and many of those jobs are not reservered for work study.

Hi W&M Admission!
I was accepted but I have yet to receive my ā€œGood Thingsā€ in the mail (I live in Maryland) when should I expect the package by?

Thanks

@Smithy328, you should have gotten it by now. They were mailed last Tuesday. Probably best to call our office, make sure we have a proper mailing address and we can send another. The good news is all of it is replicated on the welcome website (linked in your decision email) in the your admit pack section
