Words from W&M Admission: News and Updates for the 2012-2013 academic year

I am also having the same problem on the Transfer page. I get the same error message when trying to activate my W&M account (and later pay the deposit). Maybe the server is a bit overloaded since all transfer acceptances went out Friday night, and people are probably rushing in to activate accounts and pay deposits over the weekend…not sure.

@Arlmom2 and @hokiehopeful, unfortunately we cannot recreate the problem you’re encountering because we already have W&M IDs. Our best advice would be to try again tomorrow during business hours. If you’re still encountering the issue, contact our Information Technology Department at 757-221-4357. They should be able to assist or identify and fix the problem. It could simply be an issue with our server. If that’s the case, it will be fixed quickly.

The site is back up and running as it should be so you should be able to activate your account and then pay your deposit online.

Now that the May 1st deadline is upon us, am wondering if Admission office has any idea of using the wait list–particularly with regards to out of state students (since only 1/3 of the applicants can be out of state)? My daughter got a call from another school she was on the wait list for and she is supposed to let them know today, but W & M is her top choice. When might we hear about this? Thanks.

@reprahma, we don’t yet know whether or not we will utilize the waitlist. Students can still postmark a deposit tomorrow so we likely won’t have a full and accurate count of where our class stands until late this week/early next. Likewise, we won’t know where our class is short, if it’s short, until that time.

Remember, you can certainly accept an offer from the waitlist to the other school. If W&M does eventually make her an offer, she can then choose W&M and simply withdraw her enrollment from the other school (although she would likely lose whatever deposit she puts down).

Thanks for that info. Friends son in exact same situation. Was called yesterday and is expected to respond today to another school he was waitlisted on. He would rather W & M if you get to your wait list. Will let him know.

Our summer visit schedule is live. We are offering weekday tours May 28-August 30 with a few exceptions. We are also offering 5 Saturday morning tours. More details and registration can be found at [William & Mary -*Information Sessions & Campus Tours](http://www.wm.edu/admission/tour)

Additionally, rising high school seniors can choose to participate in an on-campus interview offered weekdays June 24-August 16 (excluding July 4). More information and registration can be found at http://www.wm.edu/admission/undergraduateadmission/applicationprocess/oncampusinterviews/index.php

FYI to prospect seniors. If you can do the interview DO THE INTERVIEW!!!

Does anyone know if there is any new information about the waitlist yet? Are there any statistics about how many students put down deposits, how many students stayed on the waitlist, etc?

@CollegeGeek, as we said a few days ago there’s not update yet. May 1 is a postmark deadline so we’ll still be collecting deposits and doing some analysis over the next few days. Hopefully we’ll have more information soon.

W & M Admission–any word on going to the wait list–particularly for those out of state?
Thanks.

unfortunately i’m in the same boat and i haven’t heard anything. i keep checking google to see if any new articles pop up, but none have yet. have to keep hoping though…W&M is my favorite school!

o wait here is some enlightening information!!!: [W&M Blogs » Admission](http://blogs.wm.edu/category/admission/) hope that helps, good luck!

Once you pay your deposit, how long does it take before you can obtain your wm email? Was accepted off wait list, and paid deposit this morning electronically. Assume there is a processing time but don’t know how long. Thanks.

Thank you @CollegeGeek99 for posting our recent blog. That provides the most up-to-date information about where we stand with the waitlist. We are able to make a few select additional offers and are moving forward with that process.

@Woody93, we process deposits each night. There should be an email in your in-box this morning confirming receipt of your deposit and providing instructions for activating your W&M email account. Congrats!

W&M Admissions

As per Woody’s response, Is it safe to assume that wait list acceptance letters have gone out and if you did not receive one at this point you were not selected?

Dad2girls- reco you go and read the entire wait list thread at W&M’s admit it blog- explains the process very thoroughly. But in answer to your specific question on how they are notified, here is the info (and no, not everyone has been notified yet)

How are students admitted from the waitlist notified?
Step 1: Initially we reach out to any student by phone (we will first call the cell phone if provided in the application and then the home phone if listed). If we are not able to reach a student at any phone number we will leave messages and follow up via email. These messages will ask you to get in touch with us (specifically the regional dean who reached out) within a day or two. The initial contact will be done to assess whether or not you remain interested in attending W&M. SO CHECK YOUR VOICEMAIL AND EMAIL (and yes that’s bolded and in shouty capitals for emphasis).
Step 2: If you remain interested, we will send your Good Things email that evening and put an admit pack in the mail to you the next day. If you do not remain interested, we will withdraw your application. If you do not respond to our messages, we will do one more follow-up email and then withdraw your application.

@Dad2Grls, that is not a safe assumption. As @tjmom mentioned, read our Admit It! Blog to keep up on all news waitlist-related. It’s very much an ongoing process. So we went out with an initial wave of admission offers to students on the waitlist last week. Whether or not that is the final wave depends a) on their responses and b) whether or not other schools go to their waitlist and students who already deposited withdraw from our class.

We will keep people posted as the process moves on.

If we are not accepted off the waitlist, will we be notified? Or if we don’t hear anything over the next few weeks, should we just assume we weren’t accepted? Thanks!

@cayberry, all students on the waitlist will get an email update from us in mid-June with additional information about where the waitlist and your application stand at that point.
