I just sent my supplement, and my mom decided she wanted me to edit my common app essay again. Is it okay if I send the common app a few days later? Thank you :)

@soccersara, are you applying online for everything (Common App and Supplement) or are you mailing something related to your Supplement? We are fine if parts of a student’s application come in piecemeal so no worries there. Remember though, while parents are great sources of support and assistance throughout this process, you should be the final say on what’s submitted.

W&M Admissions,

Just out of curiosity, do you view this type of curriculum as challenging or not well-rounded enough? Example: 1 AP - APUSH [only allowed one]+honors chem in 10th, 2 APs in 11th [history/english], and likely 3-4 senior year [English, History, Science(?)] plus 2 languages [latin 4 & french 3]?

Or, is this type of student not looking well-rounded enough because they won’t have calc/physics at the AP level? I realize there are many other factors in the app process so I am really just trying to determine how the curriculum fits the desired profile.

Thanks W&M admission Yes, I am applying online for everything. I do have the final say, and they’re not trying to change anything for me. they just want me to be really thorough, to an annoying extent (I’ve gone through my final draft essay at least 5 times with them) haha

@cccfoh, we do encourage students to push themselves across the curriculum and those who have the most challenging curricula are usually those who have APs in the humanities and math/science. When possible, we encourage students to take AP Calc and physics or an AP lab science in addition to say AP English and AP foreign language. Not taking such classes does not automatically mean a student will not be admitted but we definitely like to see students stretch themselves intellectually across the curriculum.

i am applying ED and wondered if senior year first marking period grades should be sent to you. thanks!

Is it okay if I did not self report that I took the October SAT’s on my common app? because scores haven’t come yet, and I’m applying ED, I assumed that we didn’t need to self report, but it looks like you’re supposed to report it even if you haven’t received scores yet. I plan on sending an official score report when they come out in late october. Is that okay?

@amberstudent, first quarter grades aren’t required for an ED application but can be submitted if you wish.

@soccersara122, the Common Application instructions tell you to report any future test dates so yes, you should report that you took the Oct. test even if you don’t yet have the results. That way we know to look out for them.

Oh I’ve already submitted my common app. Actually just a few hours ago, right before I posted the question. Will you still be able to receive the scores? I think I did much better. Can’t believe I’ve already made a mistake!!

@ wm admissions, thanks for the info.

@soccersara, have you been posting similar questions on our recent Admit It! Blog? We responded to your question there and let you know how to update your application. It’s not a mistake, just a minor oversight and one that’s easily corrected.

Yes!! that was me on the Admit it! blog. thank you very much all fixed now! I really appreciate all the help.

I wanted to send one teacher recommendation in addition to my guidance counselor’s. And I told my guidance counselor this multiple times, yet she still sent both of my teacher recs She said that she did it because there was a limit of 3 and felt that both were very good. Will 2 teacher recommendation letters annoy the admissions office? I was trying to be considerate and send just one…

@soccersara, we will certainly accept up to 3 total letters of recommendation so don’t fret. No harm done.

How important are interviews? Thank you.

thanks so much! That’s a relief!

@BeachMom, interviews are just one component of many and in our case, they are an optional component. They are evaluative if completed and do become part of a student’s application but only 20% of our applicants interview so most students apply without that particular component.

So it’s almost that time again…reading season will soon be upon us. Before we can begin however, we have to process applications and we are just beginning to do that. Check out our latest Admit It! Blog ([W&M Blogs How It Works](http://blogs.wm.edu/2012/10/16/how-it-works/)) to learn the step-by-step process of how applications are processed and put together and how you can stay informed as to where your application is in the process.

Hi W&M Admissions!

What are your views on senior year grades for ED people? I understand deferment may be an option if admissions wants to see first quarter grades before acceptance. I want to avoid that if at all possible haha

But, unfortunately AP Calc BC has been really tough. I have a borderline B-/C+ with a teacher who doesn’t believe in extra credit I have one more test. It’s on everything we’ve done this year, which is rather intimidating. And I’ve been studying hours to hopefully ace it. But, worst case scenario, will a C+ in Calc BC reflect very poorly on my application? It would be my first C ever. I have A’s in every other class (4 other AP classes-tough ones too).

I’m just a little conflicted on whether I should send them. Thanks so much!

@soccersara, it’s up to you whether or not you send first quarter grades. If you’ve had all strong grades and classes heretofore, we will not defer you based on lack of grades so far for senior year. Rarely do we have any senior year grades for ED applicants. When we do, they are considered.
