Ixnaybob and jellymuffin, I appreciate the advice. I’ll try to come in prepared instead of winging it. It’s difficult to know what I can ask about Yale that addresses topics I am actually curious about and that Google can’t answer, but I will think hard about it.
Well, more than likely the interviewer’s personal experiences at Yale are immune even to Google’s reach You can usually learn something from just about any sentient being.
Does anyone know whether the major you declare on the application plays a big role in considering a student?
GAH I can’t wait for this wait to be over! About a month left!!
heyyy! I’m with you guys. applied for international transfer from a russian university lol. dealing with paperwork was exhausting. a lot of my brain cells died a horrible death this february
@katzenjammer I’m from Russia originally too, how funny
Hi guys! Like some of you, I too had my “final transcript” missing. This is your high school transcript, as somebody else pointed out. I was told that if anything other than “2nd college transcript” was listed in red, then we must send those missing documents within 1 week of receiving that email. So please, just to be safe, re-send everything ASAP!
As for the others who are now getting nervous and impatient about the decision… @ttffnet I don’t think it will play a HUGE role, even though I myself kind of banked on it for my application. The numbers for transferring into Yale are just so crazy (after all they are one of the few schools that don’t even give you any stats/online portal for the process). And that’s exactly why if any of you make it, it WILL be crazy!
Hey guys! I was hoping someone might be able to tell me if I have a chance to transfer into Yale for Fall 2015?
Stats:
College: Emerson College
High School: #1 Public high school in the country at the time (magnet school for math, science and tech)
High School GPA: 4.0 W (my high school doesn’t show unweighted)
SATs: 2360 (R 800 W 790 M 770)
SAT IIs: Math II 770 US History 800 Lit 800
College GPA: 4.0
Mid-term GPA: 4.0
Extracurriculars: President of a Literary Magazine, copyeditor for another, graphic designer for a club for women in film, writer for a satirical newspaper/blog, member of a screenwriting club
Strengths: SATs/SAT IIs, professor recs (I think), college grades, maybe extracurriculars? Idk, reason for transferring, essays
Weaknesses: definitely high school grades (I’m a humanities person who was stuck at an advanced tech school-- terrible fit; but still, not good), intro courses
@jaygoodiez your chances are very low. please don’t ask why, it will make you sound stupid.
@josh007 wow you’re incredibly rude. Not about the low chances part, I already knew that, but the last part. Jesus Christ
@jaygoodiez, I apologize for the rudeness – let’s just assume that it was a rough night for josh007. That said, it’s even more difficult to transfer into Yale than get in, and I don’t think stats (beyond showing that you’re capable of the work) are what determines who gets in and who doesn’t.
You need to make a compelling case why Yale meets your academic needs in a way that your current school does not. IMO, that trumps everything else.
@IxnayBob thank you, that’s a lot more helpful and civil.
@IxnayBob thank you for doing the explaining and apologising on my behalf. I guess I’ve had too much of these chance posts. @jaygoodiez sorry about being rude; I too once used to ask for my own chances. You have to know that no matter how nice your stats are, nobody could ever realistically tell you how well you fare. I HAVE to believe that you’re smarter than this. You did not even tell us anything subjective about your application. That might have helped us a tinsy bit as far as determining your chances are concerned. You straight up posted your SAT/GPA/ECs. On a Yale transfer thread. And literally every other transfer thread I’ve visited too. I gotta believe you at least bothered to read their websites?
@josh007 isn’t posting stats literally what this website is for? I never used it last year but that’s how all my friends used it… And I know nobody can tell me actually my chances, but it’s nice to hear some sort of feedback after you send your application into the void. Anyways, if you didn’t feel you got enough information, whatever. You didn’t have to be a dick. And obviously I researched a lot, but thanks for all the condescension.
@josh007 I really dislike people implying I’m stupid. I don’t know anything about you (except that you’re rude) but I feel like you should examine why you feel the need to be a dick to people you don’t know anything about
@jaygoodiez let it go. this website is NOT AT ALL for posting stats! It’s much more. It’s a forum for discussing colleges. sadly, it has become inundated with chance posts and you posted in a lot of threads asking for your chances based on your objective stats. that’s bordering spam.
I do apologise for calling you stupid. I don’t know you, and you are probably quite smart, if your objective stats are anything to go by. In fact, PM me with more information and I will be quite the opposite of what you seem to think of me (ie a dick). I’ll tell you what I personally think about your application and how well it fits Yale University. Transfer applications especially have a lot to do with fit and reasons for transferring. I stress again that your objective stats, high as they may be, will not be helpful in revealing your chances. And as a transfer applicant, you of all people should know that!
If you’re seeking feedback, then help us help you with some more useful information than SAT/GPA/EC.
@jaygoodiez Stop being so sensitive. You have a 2360 and a 4.0 GPA. Quite clearly, you are qualified academically and you know that. Beyond that, you expect a reasonable answer as to your chances for 1 of ~12 seats with over a thousand applicants?
@20transfer17 No, I didn’t really expect a reasonable answer. But I don’t think it’s “too sensitive” to ask not to be called stupid just for making a chances post like other people. Looks like you need to work on your rudeness too. Maybe you and Josh should take a class.
Hey, I think you’re the only one being obnoxious now. I think we’re all stressed and nervous about the decisions. Now’s not the time to post stats and talk about chances, especially if you’re only going to post quantitative data - I don’t mean to be rude but it’s almost as if you’re trying to stick your grades up everyone’s face. I realize that may not be your intention, but that’s what it’s coming across as. Let’s just try and be supportive of one another and not fight, cause I don’t know about you guys but the wait has got me feeling so angsty and this is really not helping.
Thank you @Athena95 for your mature post. @jaygoodiez despite the transparent motivations behind your chance post, I must have apologised three times by now – and yet you are still adamant in branding me rude! You really must understand everything Athena and transfer17 and I have now said. Let it go. Make best use of this wait. I offered to help you if you’d be nice enough to offer something richer about your application. As Athena said, let’s all be supportive of each other. And if we’re not going to be that way, then I am just as happy because after all this is an internet forum where users post anonymously and we have lives (more importantly college coursework) to get back to.
Look, josh, I joined this site yesterday. I saw a bunch of people posting stat posts and thought “well, cool, a way I could be a little less in the dark about what my chances are.” So I posted my stats hoping for a little relief from the uncertainty, not to rub anyone’s noses in anything, Athena (esp considering that my chances are so low, why would I rub people’s noses in anything? I am actually very insecure about my application due to my high school grades). If you don’t like stat posts that’s fine, don’t respond to them, nobody’s forcing you to. I didn’t realize they were considered so gauche. But to specifically shame me and make me feel stupid for trying to get a little relief from the crushing uncertainty and lack of knowledge is mean. That wasn’t supportive. And to call me obnoxious for pointing it out isnt supportive either.
