Well everyone, Yale emailed me back yesterday and confirmed what I had suspected!

If you sent in your secondary school report and high school transcript separately, it prompts an email to be sent saying they are “missing” even though they are NOT. They checked my file and then told me this information!

I am content with getting denied…but you never know if you do not try! However, I will still feel some level of disappointment when the day arrives, of course.

On the other hand, if I get accepted…I will probably pass out!

My son was accepted at Yale, initially said “yes,” but then withdrew and is a freshman at another school. Now he’s unhappy and would like to transfer to Yale. Anyone have experience or advice with this kind of situation?

I did the same at another university, and was later told if I wished to attend again I would have to re-apply, but had such good connections in the admissions officer (and my regional admissions counselor) I was told it would be likely I would be accepted… I don’t know how Yale is because they are selective with their transfer process and take rather unique individuals. Him applying never hurts if he really wants to go!

Similar in the sense of being accepted as a fr, not attending and later transferring.

D1 was accepted to Y but it was before the change in FA policies several years ago and we qualified for very little FA. She turned down Y for a full ride merit scholarship at a top public. Due to some unmet promises concerning the scholarship, other issues and the change in FA, she decided to apply for a soph year transfer and was admitted.

She told me later that if she’d known how few transfers they accepted, she probably wouldn’t have even bothered trying ;).

@entomom, also you’re D1 showed competitive high school stats, and that is very important when applying as a sophomore transfer… Also, being an experienced CC member and mother of a transfer student to Yale, what do you think Yale stresses the most in transfer admissions?

Yes, absolutely true. And that would be the position of the member’s S that I replied to also; although I don’t know if accepting and then matriculating somewhere else would affect transferring. In general, I think that Y adcoms understand how difficult decisions can be for some students and I don’t think they take it to heart that another school was chosen.

I honestly think that for the hand full of seats that they fill every year, they don’t have any particular factor they’re looking for outside of: interesting students who will contribute something special to their class and who can do the work.

In the 3 yrs that D1 was at Y, transfers tended (there were exceptions) to come from other selective privates or publics, as well as the military academies and Deep Springs. This is in contrast with S which seems to accept a significant number of CC and NT transfer students.

Best of luck to all of the Y transfer applicants for Fall 2012!
