The deal with me is I'm pre-med and the pre-med stuff here (I'm in the honors science classes) is pretty easy. The honors chem class, for example, only has 35 kids in it (of the 800 or so who are taking Chem I/II) and the class just isn't very challenging.
This sounds crazy, but I don't want an easy 4.0, i want to be challeneged. Yeah that's elitist and pretentious as balls, but I want to be in an "academically stimulating environment coupled with an equally engaging student body" (i think that's verbatim from my essay). NYU people, tell me if I'm wrong, but do you guys feel that the people around here leave something to be desired? Maybe it's just me and the people who I know (I know a bunch, but maybe not enough), but I feel like most people are...dumb/stupid/ignorant for lack of a better word.
Plus I kind of want a unified campus with a quad. I've imagined walking around on a quad since freshman year of high school and unfortunately can't do that here.
On a slightly different note, i LOVE new york city. It simply can't be beat. However, while i do love the city, i don't love studying in a school that's one with the city. Get me?

I love the city as well.
But I do miss a campus (my high school was one of those campusy high schools with emphasis on the community spirit).

in most cases, Georgetown is the better choice.

Yah Georgetown is probably stronger for most fields unless you want to go into business.

for NYU, I agree with what's been said.

For those people who LOVE the city, and want to be totally immersed, NYU is an amazing experience.

I wouldn't mind Columbia, which is a rather nice mix... but I'll probaby just come back to NYC after undergrad :-P

I know this is totally the wrong thread, but if anyone wants to talk about NYU/NYC, feel free to PM me.

Back on topic: we're pretty sure it's the 11th for Penn? Is it all in one shot, or rolling admission? They said they'd E-mail and mail when decisions are posted, right?

they'll start notifying on May 11th..
but since they're sooooooooo slow~~~!!,
most of won't know until like.. middle of May~~

relax (as if I should be talking). but really, we've just got less than a week =)

Does anyone know why the date was pushed back from the 1st to the 11th?

probably bc there were more apps

cs1688, your stats are very good..

Okay, so we all get that NYU sucks. Why are you all applying to Penn? I guess I will go first.

Strong supply of realist international affairs scholars (Avery Goldstein).

Professors are widely published (It gives a personal jist to supplemental material)

Emphasis on Foreign Language.

Strong and growing program in Islamic Studies.

1) it's so pretty--buildings, locust walk, campus as a whole, really (let's not talk about the surroundings)
2) better academics, specifically the sciences (i'm pre-med with math/chem)
3) penn has a campus
4) i've had a heck of a lot more fun with people over there than i've had with people here
5) did i mention it's pretty?

Yeah, Penn has a substantial portion of green despite the fact that it is in a city.

yeah.. penn is beautiful :]

anyways, i wonder what time we'll get to access our decisions online... hehe.

yea i got my letter today saying that they received my app, got it so late because forgot to pay them lol

So just to clarify, we are going to be able to check our decisions online this Thursday?

Will it matter if we applied for Financial Aid? Are they "need blind" for transfers?

based on what everyone has been saying, jacknjill, i believe that's the case

I DO NOT THINK THAT EVERYONE IS HEARING ON 11, that woudl be contrary to last year, they send them out in batches, i think, i think the first round is on the 11th...then it could be the 18th, then the 27th....

has anyone NOT recieved the letter in the mail with the Log-In info?

i like how everyone is obsessing over the login/password paper...haha

it was a bit unclear when i called, but i was given the impression that they come out in 3 batches, but that all CAS decisions should be in the first batch on the 11th..someone may want to call and confirm that tomorrow
