Pure speculation after reading over last years thread has led me to believe that they use their 3 release dates to progressively narrow down the many applications they receive. Since so many acceptances have already gone out, it looks like they use the first date to send out decisions to the people they are most sure about since it is to their advantage to notify their accepted students as early as possible- this makes sense since the other Ivy leagues besides Harvard have already released decisions. All the rest who they are still considering get pushed back, and perhaps that is why the two rejections were from community colleges where most credit would not transfer to Penn since they are known for already being difficult with granting credit. The next wave still has slots for some acceptances, but not as many, and if you haven't heard by the second wave you are most likely not getting in, although one poster got in during the last wave last year. Again, this is just my speculation, but I think it makes sense. I am still holding out hope.

I concur. (10 char)

timberland, ur prob correct, but just curious, but my situation and some other ppl's (Myers, that dude from NYU Y2 something), we are all have very good stats from fine schools, and a i notice that a bunch of the accepts here got Rejected by columbia and waitlisted by other schools, i.e. chicago, and i got waitlisted by columbia, and into chicago, and i go to cornell already, i don't think my ap is deficient in any way, i am truly baffled by this entire thing

actually, brown decisions are not out yet (well, one person from RI got one today, but they wont all be out til monday or tuesday), and all yale decisions except for one received today have been rejections....so while that logic is sound, each school seems to follow its own tune.

hey!! I talked with the Admissions office on Wednesday and they said that the decisions are not released in any order i.e not in order of good stats, name, date of submissions, accepts/rejects etc

well, they've probably all been rejections (yale) because they admit only twenty five people or so compared to UPENN's 200-

Oh wells, I'll be terribly depressed if PENN doesn't say yes- and I hate to admit it but I think the rejection batch is for next week-

they admitted 30 out of 750, which is comprable to both harvard and brown's rumored admit rate.

I thot harvard was about 75? no big difference tho-

no, percent wise....harvard: 75/1200, brown (rumored): 60/1200

those figures are creepy! God save my soul!

yale is 30/750, so penn does have the largest admit rate, but not by that much

I don't really mind that my decision isn't out yet- I just think it was really crappy of them to put up that message that said we shud expect our decisions on friday evening-oh wells,...I think I'll just forget about penn- have been checking the decisions page evry ten minutes or so despite the fact that today is a saturday- how dumb!

Pepsicokevodka: a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU!!! I am so thrilled that you got in to Penn. I was freaking out for you after all those rejections. Breathe a sigh of relief and print out like 20 copies of your acceptance letter and go swim in them. You deserve it. CONGRATS!

haha..thanks so much Layla...I really appreciate it...U cant believe how down I was after those rejections...well, tonight I am gonna swim in alcohol.......lol

Thanks, green...

hmm...yeah..UPENN was my first choice, so I am pretty sure that I am gonna attend...

Haha, that's so ideal...getting in to only your top choice school. No tough decisions to make, no worries. Congrats.

could someone start a new thread that has stats so that we can see what things got people in, what things kept people out?

or, we can just do it here using the format code:
