2009 PSAT scores (Class of 2011)

^^ Mine too

PSAT: 226 in CA…

^ Just the opposite for me lol. Disappointed that my PSAT wasn’t quite reflective of my actual abilities. I still made the NMSF cutoff so I guess it’s better that I performed well on the SAT.

^The very same happened to me. I scored a 205 on my PSAT, but scored much higher on my SAT.

My psat blew (207), but I did waaaaaaaay better on the SAT(2250). I still think I get commended though.

Yeah you definitely get commended.

@moodragonx

I got a 215 here in NC and haven’t received a letter or anything saying I’m commended. Not quite good enough I guess??? We’re both right at the cutoff line here. Hopefully it’s 214 so you can get semi-finalist as well.

Ah you should definitely have gotten some sort of letter talking about “College Plans Reporting Service” asking you to give them the names of two colleges for them to recommend your name and stuff. If you didn’t get it then there must have been some mistake in the mailing of your letter or something.

But yeah, unless there’s some freak surge of PSAT prowess from NC, you should definitely make it for semi-finalist status (and Finalist status too :)). But yeah, I’m hoping it lands on a 214 for my sake as well :P.

wait, so anyone who’s a NMSF got some kind of letter from their school? I got a 238 but I haven’t gotten anything like that (unless my school lost it or forgot to give it to me)

I actually got mine directly in the mail from the scholarship corporation, I think. But now that I think about it my school gave me a “high PSAT scorer” award so they must have had some way of determining that status. I doubt they made some arbitrary cut off themselves - it may be that they forwarded the letter to my home after seeing that I received it, and used that as basis for the terribly redundant certificate.

In any case, the letter was given to anyone who scored in the top 50,000 nationally. The national numbers are easier to draw up for them and they’ve already got a list of everyone who will either be commended (about 34,000/50,000) or be a semifinalist (16,000/50,000), but it’ll take longer to form the cut offs for each state and identify which students from each state made the cut off.

So essentially if you made the national cut off for commended status (about 200 this year) you SHOULD have received some form of letter regarding that and offering you the opportunity for the NMS corporation to recommend you to two schools of your choosing in order to receive more information from those schools.

So, if you didn’t and scored about 200 there was some error in the delivery of your letter but its really nothing to worry about… at all. The recommendation from the NMSC means virtually nothing to most higher end schools (it’s said to not even be enough to signify that those schools are among your top choices) - the fact that your are a semi-finalist will be far more beneficial to your application.

scored 218 in ohio…hoping for semifinalist.

My son got a 215 on the PSAT in NC and received a letter… I am sure you made it too…

229 PSAT Score, NY
CR:76 M:78 W:75

218 in cali

for those whose SAT scores were much higher than PSAT scores, did you guys study for the PSAT/study a lot for the SAT?
thanks.

220 from WA.

Do you guys know what the cutoff was last year for international students?

Is it on collegeboard?

221 if I remember correctly.

not collegeboard, the NMS website**

221 for international students…hmmm. I can do that, me thinks.

Also, do you only qualify for NMS if you take the PSAT junior year? Because I’m a rising Sophomore, and my school schedules a PSAT day for both sophomores and juniors.

But my sister only got a NMS scholarship her junior year…

Yep, only junior year.
